The basketball players of Cedevita Olimpija have won the Slovenian national championship title for the sixth consecutive time. The Ljubljana Dragons defeated Krka Novo Mesto 3–0 in the championship finals series, ending the season in competitions organized by the Slovenian Basketball Federation in the best possible way—with another trophy added to the club’s collection. In Monday’s third game, the scoreboard at Leona Štukelj Sports Hall showed an 87–71 victory for the Ljubljana side.

The decisive third game of the finals was played in Novo Mesto, where Cedevita Olimpija achieved another important milestone in its rich history. The Ljubljana club became the first team since Krka to lift the national championship trophy in Novo Mesto itself. Until now, Krka had successfully defended its home court advantage in every championship finals series it won on home soil.

This marks Cedevita Olimpija’s 23rd Slovenian national championship title since the country’s independence, further cementing its status as the most successful basketball club in Slovenia. It is also the Dragons’ 16th consecutive trophy in competitions organized by the Slovenian Basketball Federation, extending an extraordinary period of domestic dominance.

The finals between Cedevita Olimpija and Krka were their twelfth championship finals meeting. With the victory in the 2025/26 season, the Ljubljana club leveled the head-to-head finals record, with both teams now having won six championship titles against each other in finals series. The rivalry remains one of the most significant and successful in the history of Slovenian club sports.

The success in the 2025/26 season is another confirmation of the Ljubljana club’s remarkable consistency. In the last nine national championship finals series, Cedevita Olimpija has won eight titles, further strengthening its position at the top of Slovenian club basketball.

The sixth consecutive championship title represents one of the longest winning streaks in the club’s history, although the record still belongs to the generations that, under the names Smelt Olimpija and Union Olimpija, won eight consecutive national championships between 1992 and 1999. With this sixth straight title, Cedevita Olimpija has moved even closer to that remarkable achievement and continues a tradition of success that has accompanied the Ljubljana club for more than three decades.

Throughout the entire finals series, Cedevita Olimpija displayed mature, disciplined, and high-quality basketball, fully deserving another championship title. With the victory in Novo Mesto, the Dragons crowned yet another successful season and gave their fans a new unforgettable chapter in the club’s history. In addition to the national championship, the Dragons also won the Spar Cup and the Slovenian Super Cup, while reaching the quarterfinals of both the EuroCup and the ABA League playoffs.

GAME REPORT:

Cedevita Olimpija started the game better than the home team and led by 2 points after the first quarter (22–20). By halftime, the Dragons had extended their advantage to 15 points (46–31). As it later turned out, despite the home side’s determined fight until the very end, the Dragons managed to control the game throughout the second half and never seriously put their lead in doubt.

For Cedevita Olimpija, Umoja Gibson led the scoring with 20 points. DJ Stewart added 19 points, Aleksej Nikolić scored 16, and Miha Cerkvenik also finished with 20 points.
