DJ Stewart remains in the jersey of Cedevita Olimpija’s senior team! The American guard signed a two-year contract with the Ljubljana club. Stewart joined the team from Stožice before the start of the 2023/24 season, directly after the conclusion of the Super Cup of the ABA League in Podgorica.
“I know DJ, I followed him, he is still a young player who played in European basketball for the first time last season, and after conversations with his teammates and former coaches, it is clear that he is a good, ambitious guy. In the first season he had a few ups and downs. I think he has the potential to develop into a serious basketball player. We want to help him in his development, and at the same time he will help us to raise Cedevita Olimpija to a higher level,” said the head coach of the Dragons team, Zvezdan Mitrović.
“I’m excited about contract extension. I’m really not happy about how our last season went, I now I can really get a chance to come back and try to do it again, but better. I’m definetely excited to be a part of Cedevita Olimpija and I’m looking forward to the next season. I want us to be a top contender in every league, and I want to compete at the high level in every league. I want to win and I’m willing to do what ever to reach the wins. To the Cedevita Olimpija fans, I appreciate the support in last season through the ups and down, and I’m looking forward to see you in Stožice and Tivoli next season,” said DJ Stewart on extension of the contract.
In 16 games of the European Cup last season, DJ Stewart scored 12.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists, and spent a little more than 29 minutes on the court. He played in 27 games in the regional league, spent 25.6 minutes on the floor per game, and during this time scored 11.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. In the Slovenian national championship, he played in all seven playoff games, scoring 13.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.6 steals in 25.5 minutes.
Before coming to Ljubljana, Stewart played in the Dominican Republic, in the jersey of the Marineros, and before that he was part of the Sioux Falls Skyforce and Austin Spurs. He also wore the Washington Wizards jersey in the NBA Summer League last summer.
