Just over an hour after Sunday’s victory over Borac in the ABA League, the Cedevita Olimpija players have already set off for the Canary Islands, where they will face in the eighth round of the 7DAYS EuroCup with Herbalife Gran Canaria on Wednesday at 21.00 Slovenian time.
Cedevita Olimpija basketball players will face the eighth round of the 7DAYS EuroCup against Herbalife Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands, and the team of head coach Jurica Golemac will chase their fifth consecutive victory, the fourth on the European stage.
After the Dragons reliably defeated Borac from Čačak (97:88) on the home stage on Sunday, the path led them the same day, first to Italy, and on Monday they were already on a flight to Las Palmas in the Canary Islands. The Ljubljana team thus continues with the strenuous rhythm of travel, which began last week, when they spent four days in Turkey, and stopped in the Slovenian capital for only three days before leaving Ljubljana again.
Cedevita Olimpija went to Las Palmas without Žiga Dimec and Roko Leni Ukić, and Alen Hodžić, who had a duel with Borac after an inappropriate shot by one of the players from Čačak, ended the match early.
Herbalife Gran Canaria defeated Trento in the 7DAYS EuroCup on Friday, which was undefeated until this match and has already secured its place among the top 16 teams in the competition. In the Gran Canaria Arena, the scoreboard showed 71:61 in favor of the home team after 40 minutes of play, and Tomas Dimsa was the top scorer with 19 points. On their account, the ‘Canaries’ have a victory more (5) than the Dragons (4), but they will certainly want to avenge the Ljubljana basketball players for the defeat in Stožice (68:84).
STATEMENTS BEFORE THE MATCH:
Jurica Golemac, head coach of Cedevita Olimpija:
“Gran Canaria is a great team, the leader in our group. Our Wednesday’s opponents play fast, modern basketball, like all Spanish teams. The players finish the actions quickly and everyone who steps on the court is a real sniper. We will have to enter the game focused, and play well in the defensive transition. The key to victory is to stop their easy baskets, and not let them shoot open shots, but we must not forget the rebound.”
Ivan Marinković, player of Cedevita Olimpija:
“We have a new game ahead of us. Surely we all want to continue our winning streak and continue to play at a good pace, but we are aware that it will not be easy. Gran Canaria is a serious team that we respect very much. we will be as good as any match and we are counting on winning.”
