The basketball players of Cedevita Olimpija lost 84–72 on Saturday at Stožice in the fifth round of the second phase of the AdmiralBet ABA League against Romania’s U-BT Cluj-Napoca. For the Dragons, this marks their fifth consecutive loss in recent games.
Cedevita Olimpija’s senior team suffered their fifth straight defeat on Saturday in the fifth round of the second phase of the AdmiralBet ABA League, their second loss against U-BT Cluj-Napoca. The Romanian side was once again better than the team led by head coach Zvezdan Mitrović, winning 84–72 in their second meeting within a few days.
Until the end of the group stage, the Slovenian champions will play three more games — next Saturday they will visit Dubai in Sarajevo, and they will conclude the TOP 8 phase with two consecutive home games, first against Partizan Mozzart Bet and then against Igokea m:tel.
GAME REPORT:
Just like in the game four days earlier, the Romanians started stronger and led by eight points after the first quarter. This did not unsettle the home team, which kept fighting and tied the score at 28–28 midway through the second quarter. However, the visitors then went on a 10–0 run over the next three minutes of the game, pulling away to a double-digit lead (28–38). After that, the home side was unable to close the gap enough to seriously threaten the visitors’ win, and the Romanians celebrated the victory.
The most efficient scorer for the Ljubljana team was Umoja Gibson with 24 points. Aleksej Nikolić added 10.
