Wednesday’s showdown with Virtus Bologna

Cedevita Olimpija will continue their fights in the group stage of the 7DAYS EuroCup on Wednesday at 20.00. Virtus Segafredo Bologna is coming to Arena Stožice in the sixth round of the European Cup. Tickets to watch the match are already on sale.

The competition break is also over in the 7DAYS EuroCup. Ljubljana’s Cedevita Olimpija will return to the floor on Wednesday at 20.00, and in the sixth round of the group stage of the competition, one of the main favorites to win the European Cup title, Italian Virtus Segafredo Bologna, is coming to Stožice.

After five matches played in the group stage of the European Cup, Virtus Bologna has three wins and two defeats. The latter were experienced by the current Italian national champions against Buducnost VOLI and Valencia, and three victories were recorded against Frutti Extra Bursaspor, ratiopharm Ulm and Umana Reyer. In the Italian derby of the fifth round, the players from Bologna beat the team from Venice with the score 90:84. Virtus’ top scorers were Kevin Hervey with 26 and Miloš Teodosić with 22 points, and the Serbian player added seven assists to the statistics.

The team from Bologna last stepped on the floor on Sunday and in the Italian national championship closely, with 102:100, after overtime beat Dinamo Sassari. Kyle Weems finished the game with 19 points and seven rebounds, Marco Belinelli scored 16 points, 15 of which were scored by Mouhammadou Jaiteh, who also collected nine rebounds, and Teodosić, who collected 10 assists and six rebounds.

Cedevita Olimpija also played for the first time after the competition break on Sunday and in the tenth round of the regional league on the home floor they lost to Zadar with 73:74. Zach Auguste scored 14 points, one point less was scored by Melvin Ejim.

We have nothing to lose, but we have to be better than in the last few games. We need to play energetically and much more confidently. The match with the Italians will certainly not be easy, but at the same time it is a showdown where there is no pressure on us, so we can give everything we got, and show that we have quality, which we have not shown lately. We have a lot of bad luck. We do some things well, but we need to be much better. Virtus Bologna has Marco Belinelli and Miloš Teodosić, the best players of the Italian team, excellent scorers. We must not forget the other players who are really great also, and who have played in the Euroleague and the NBA, among others.”

“Wednesday’s game is important for us to bounce back, especially after our last game on Sunday. We have to focus in and use this game to build, get better and try to come out and win.
