Cedevita Olimpija is set to host Joventut Badalona in Round 3 of the 7DAYS EuroCup regular season on Wednesday at 19.30 in Stožice Arena. The tickets are still on sale!
It will be a battle between two historic names in the 7DAYS EuroCup on Wednesday when Cedevita Olimpija (0-2) hosts Joventut Badalona (1-1) for a Group A showdown that has its protagonists in a place that few expected.
Cedevita Olimpija is last in the group having lost its two games this season, the last at U-BT Cluj-Napoca 94-76. Josh Adams, Alen Omic and Aaron Harrison combined for 57 points, but it was not enough for the team to escape Romania with a win. Despite a win in the opener, Joventut fell in Round 2 at Frutti Extra Bursaspor, 81-72. Ante Tomic and Kyle Guy led the losing effort in which 17 turnovers were too big a burden to carry for Joventut.
Cedevita Olimpija will need to regroup in order to get its first win of the season. The team seems to be handling the ball well (it has the third-best turnover mark in the league), but it will need better shot selection from the field if it wants to have a chance to win against one of the powerhouses of the competition. The visitors will land in Ljubljana eager to bounce back, but the hosts are a title contender with two losses already. Joventut will have to watch for turnovers and free-throw percentage, which always needs to be in order in case of close finishes.
Jurica Golemac, head coach of Cedevita Olimpija:
“Ahead of us is a challenging game with Joventut, probably the best team in our group in the 7DAYS EuroCup, aiming to return to the Euroleague. The team consists of quality and experienced players, and they are led on the floor by Ante Tomić, who has been part of Joventut for many years, and there are also experienced Spanish players such as Guillem Vivas and Pau Ribas, as well as excellent foreigners. We continue to face health problems that complicate the training process. Nevertheless, we must remain positive. We all want all players to return to the floor as soon as possible. Those who can will do their best even in the middle of the game to beat a top rival like Joventut. We invite the fans to come and help us in these moments, because we really need their help.”
Rok Radović, player of Cedevita Olimpija:
“Joventut might be the best team in our group in the 7DAYS EuroCup. We know that there is an extremely demanding match ahead of us, as the jersey of the club from Badalona is worn by many quality players. We focus all our energy on preparation for the match. I hope that, regardless of last week, the fans will fill the Arena nicely and come to cheer us on, as we want to get back on the winning track and record our first win in the 7DAYS EuroCup at the same time.”
