The senior roster of Cedevita Olimpija will be strengthened at the point guard position for the 2025/26 competitive season with the addition of Umoja Gibson, who is moving to Ljubljana from Subotica, where he played for Spartak in the 2024/25 season.
The latest addition to Cedevita Olimpija’s senior roster for the 2025/26 competitive season is Umoja Gibson. The 185 cm tall, 26-year-old Gibson gained experience outside the United States for one season on the court in Germany, and for a short period in the 2024/25 season, he also played in China, but concluded the 2024/25 season with Spartak in Subotica, getting his first taste of the regional league. Gibson has signed a two-year contract with Cedevita Olimpija.
“We are pleased that Umoja Gibson will join us in Ljubljana for the upcoming season. Last season, while playing for Spartak, he got his first experience in the regional league, where he delivered strong performances. He has thus become well-acquainted with the ABA League, and in the upcoming season, he will also face challenges in the EuroCup. We hope that Gibson, with his play on both defense and offense, will contribute to our team in all aspects of our game and grow alongside his teammates,” said Cedevita Olimpija’s Sports Director, Chechu Mulero, upon signing the contract with Gibson.
“This summer, the player market is very competitive due to offers from the Euroleague, young players moving to the NCAA, and transfers to clubs with larger budgets, making it extremely difficult to find a quality point guard. Umoja Gibson caught our attention with his excellent performances on both ends of the court—both in offense and defense. We are confident that he can significantly contribute to our game while further refining his skills and elevating his performance,” said the head coach of the senior team, Zvezdan Mitrović, regarding Gibson’s addition to the roster.
“I feel great after signing with Cedevita Olimpija. During a conversation with my agent, I learned that the club has a rich basketball history. This is an important step forward in my career. We will be playing in the EuroCup against top opponents, which I’m very excited about,” said Umoja Gibson upon signing his contract with Cedevita Olimpija.
In the NCAA, Umoja Gibson played for three teams—North Texas Mean Green, Oklahoma Sooners, and DePaul Blue Demons. In total, he appeared in 161 games at the collegiate level in the United States, averaging 13.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.4 steals per game in 30.6 minutes on the court.
After his NCAA career, he moved to Germany, where he played for Goettingen. He appeared in 32 games in the German national championship, averaging 14.4 points, 4.9 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game in 27.1 minutes on the court. In the 2023/24 season, Gibson was his team’s leading scorer and steal leader.
He began the 2024/25 season in China before moving to Subotica to join Spartak in late October 2024. He played in 26 ABA League games, averaging 17.8 minutes, 9.0 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 rebounds per game.
His best performance in the regional league came in the 18th round when he scored 31 points against Krka in Subotica, adding four assists, which earned him a valuation index of 34 and the ABA League Player of the Round award. He faced Cedevita Olimpija twice in the 2024/25 season—scoring nine points in the 11th round in Tivoli and recording 13 points in the 26th round in Subotica.
