Cedevita Olimpija continues to strengthen its senior team for the start of the 2022/23 season. At the Point Guard position, the Ljubljana team strengthened with Lovro Gnjidić, a 197-centimeter-tall Croatian player who wore the jersey of Zagreb’s Cibona last season. Gnjidić will remain in Ljubljana at least until the end of the 2023/24 season.
“I am looking forward to coming to the Cedevita Olimpija. I think it’s definitely a step forward for me to join a serious club that plays in the 7DAYS EuroCup. I know that practices with coach Golemac are great and my goal is to improve as much as possible during this season and of course to make the best possible result,” said Gnjidić upon joining Cedevita Olimpija.
“We are very happy to have brought one of the most promising point guards in the region to Ljubljana. We know Lovro Gnjidić well from the regional league, he is a young player who has a lot of room for improvement. It will help us in the coming season and we definitely want to grow together and achieve the best possible results. I would like to emphasize once again that I am very, very happy that Lovro landed at Cedevita Olimpija,” said the head coach of the Dragons, Jurica Golemac, when signing the contract with Lovro Gnjidić. Announcing the new reinforcement of the Ljubljana team, the sports director of the Ljubljana’s team, Sani Bečirović, said: “Lovro Gnjidić is one of the most talented point guards in our region and we are happy that he decided to join our team. We have been following him for some time, we know that he comes to Ljubljana with experience playing in the regional league, and at the same time he has a lot of space and potential for advancement. We believe that he will progress in the Dragons’ jersey and at the same time help our team achieve the goals we will set for ourselves.”
Lovro Gnjidić spent his entire basketball career in Zagreb’s Cibona. He grew up within the club’s junior teams from the Croatian capital, and in 2020 he also began his professional career there. In the 2021/22 competition season, Gnjidić played in 25 regional league matches. He spent an average of 21.6 minutes on the floor, scoring 5.6 points, 3.8 assists and 2.7 rebounds. He showed his best performance in the match of the eighth round with Borac, when he added 19 points, eight assists and five rebounds in Čačak. At the same time, Lovro helped Cibona to the title of Croatian national champion.
Gnjidić represented the Croatian national team in numerous competitions for the national teams of younger age categories, and last November he made his debut in the jersey of the Croatian men’s senior national team. In the Croatian jersey, he stepped on the floor for the first time in the qualifying match for the World Cup in 2023 against Slovenia, and he is part of the national team also in this summer.
