Cedevita Olimpija will face Promitheas from Patras on Thursday at 8.45 pm in the remaining match of the ninth round of the 7DAYS EuroCup group stage in the home Arena Stožice. The teams are old acquaintances from the 2020/21 season, when they competed in team work, and both victories were recorded by the Ljubljana basketball players.
Tickets to watch the match are already on sale, and it will be possible to watch the live television broadcast on Šport TV 1.
On Tuesday, in the match of the 14th round of the European Cup, the Ljubljana club reliably defeated Podgorica’s Budućnost VOLI with 92:78. The motivated Dragons were always a better team on the cone, despite the dark minutes in the third quarter, when the guests were only eight points behind, the team of head coach Jurica Golemac did not lose focus, and in the end was looking forward to the eleventh consecutive success.
The best scorer in the green-orange jersey was Jaka Blažič with 23 points, and Alen Omić contributed 19 points and eight rebounds. Yogi Ferrell (18), Zoran Dragić (11) and Jacob Pullen (10) also scored double-digit points.
Like Cedevita Olimpija, Promitheas last stepped on the floor on Tuesday and beat ratiopharm Ulm 79:68 at home. For the Greek team, it was their fourth win in 13 matches this season and they currently occupy the last place in Group B. In the last six matches in the European Cup, Promithas has recorded two victories.
In Tuesday’s clash with the German team, the Greeks played decisively in the first half, and in the third quarter they also led by 20 points. The lead jumped to 23 points (61:38) in the last part of the game, then Ulm played more enthusiastically and came close to 66:61, and the score was finally decided by Kendrick Ray a little more than a minute before the end of the match in favor of the hosts.
The latter finished the game with ten points, and Promitheas ’top scorer was Jerai Grant with 22 points and also collected 11 rebounds. Dimitris Agravanis scored 14 points, six rebounds and eight assists.
He currently ranks fourth in the Greek national championship, and has nine wins and four defeats.
STATEMENTS AHEAD OF THE GAME:
Jurica Golemac, head coach of Cedevita Olimpija:
“We have a difficult match ahead of us in terms of energy. Promitheas is a very good team that is well coached and has been led by an experienced coach for many years, who always prepares his team very well. Promitheas have experienced team, which plays very offensively. We need to emphasize our game in defense again. We have to win the rebounding battle and close out our opponents and be better than in Tuesday’s match with Buducnost. We have to force Promitheas our rhythm of the game to play fast and with a lot of intensity, as our rivals like to play chess, so we should not get into their rhythm.”
Edo Murić, player of Cedevita Olimpija:
“We are definitely facing a difficult match. Promitheas have been playing very well lately, as shown by Tuesday’s win against Ulm. Given that we both stepped on the floor on Tuesday, basketball in Thursday’s game may not be the most attractive, but the game is very important to us, so we will do our best to ensure this victory, which would mean a lot to us in continuation of the season. I hope the Cones fill up and we can enjoy it together.”
