Nikolić: I am glad that the Ljubljana audience still knows and is able to fill Stožice and Tivoli

Slovenian national team player Aleksej Nikolić is the newest member of Cedevita Olimpija’s team. After signing the contract with Nikolic, the latter concentrated his thoughts before the start of the summer and the new competition season.

Aleksej left Slovenia abroad very early, in 2011, and 13 years later he is returning to Slovenian basketball, for the first time in member competition. Cedevita Olimpija will be his home in the upcoming competitive season, and he is moving to Ljubljana from France, where he wore the Chalon jersey last season.

“I follow Cedevita Olimpija every season, both in the regional league and in the European Cup. The club has had ups and downs, but the season that I remember most is when they made it to the quarterfinals of the EuroCup, where Bursaspor ended up a hair better. But I am most pleased by the fact that the Ljubljana audience still knows and is able to fill Stožice and Tivoli in the right way. I hope that there will be more of this in the upcoming competition season.”

Nikolić also explained what influenced his decision to wear the jersey of the Ljubljana Dragons in the future.

“I liked the presentation of ideas for the upcoming competition season. I believe that we will put together a good and competitive team and play good basketball and try to fight for the highest places. These must be the main goals of Cedevita Olimpija. It certainly influenced my decision to I’m coming to Ljubljana.”

From the bench, the member team of the Ljubljana club will be led by the Montenegrin expert, Zvezdan Mitrović. Nikolić is already looking forward to working with Mitrović.

“I am looking forward to working with Zvezdan. I know him from basketball circles, I followed his teams and also played against them. He is an excellent coach who will definitely get the most out of each of us who will play.”

What can the fans expect from Nikolić in the Cedevita Olimpija jersey?

“The fans can expect from me the game of a classic organizer of the game, who knows how to make the right decisions at the right moments, play with teammates, calm the game, set up an offense and at the same time play defense on the other side of the floor. My message to the fans is an invitation to come to us in the new season to support as many as possible at every opportunity and at every moment of the season.”
