On Monday at 18.30 Slovenian time, the players of Cedevita Olimpija will face Frutti Extra Bursaspor in the second match of the second round of the 7DAYS EuroCup in Turkey’s Bursa.
Cedevita Olimpija will play the home match of the second round of the 7DAYS EuroCup against Bursaspor on Monday at 6.30 pm Slovenian time in Bursa, Turkey. Strange fact? Not even if we keep in mind the fact that the match was postponed in early October due to circumstances related to the coronavirus with the Dragons, after which the Euroleague management decided to modify the rules for the new competition season. Thus, the club, which is ‘guilty’ of postponing the original date of the match, must cover the full costs of organizing the match, including the travel of the opponent and all stakeholders, and the fact that Cedevita Olimpija and Bursaspor will compete on Wednesday, also in Turkey, went hand in hand with the decision to have the postponed match also played at the Tofas Spor Salon.
The head coach’s Jurica Golemac team should play the sixth round match of the ABA League with FMP before the match with Bursa on Saturday, which was also postponed due to numerous infections with COVID-19 in the Belgrade team. Despite this, the Ljubljana team is fighting the Turks after Wednesday’s win against Nanterre 92, which the Dragons defeated in Stožice with the score 75:63.
The Turks do not yet know the sweetness of victory in the European season after four matches. In the sixth round, they had to concede victory to Trento in Italy, which celebrated their success with 89:80. With 21 points and 11 rebounds, the most effective basketball player in the Bursa ranks was Oguz Savas.
STATEMENTS AHEAD OF THE GAME:
Jurica Golemac, head coach of Cedevita Olimpija:
“Bursaspor is an extremely talented team, and the core of the team is made up of five foreign players and three experienced Turkish players. Above all, we will have to play as a team in defense, as the Turks are very diverse in the offense. Each of them can score a three-pointer. Tactically, we have to prepare for the individual characteristics of the players. We will have to win with an intense game, and at the same time fix our rebounding game, which has been causing us problems since the beginning of the season.”
Ivan Marinković, player of Cedevita Olimpija:
“We have a match against Bursaspor ahead of us, which is very important for us. We know that we will have a showdown with a quality competitor, who will certainly be very motivated. We respect the Turkish players, and we will do our best to record a victory, which would mean a lot to us before the season continues.”
