KK Cedevita Olimpija is thrilled to announce its first signing of a new player ahead of the 2025/26 competitive season! Miha Cerkvenik, a product of the Dragon family, is returning to the Ljubljana club after spending the last three seasons with Krka Novo Mesto, during which he also earned a call-up to the Slovenian men’s national team.
Ahead of the 2025/26 season, occasional Slovenian national team player Miha Cerkvenik is rejoining the Dragon family! A homegrown talent who first learned the game at Peter Vilfan’s Basketball School before honing his skills in Cedevita Olimpija’s youth categories, Cerkvenik is coming back home after successfully competing at the senior level. Having played for Ilirija and established himself at Krka Novo Mesto, Cerkvenik has signed a contract with the Ljubljana club, keeping him in the Dragon’s Nest at least until the end of the 2027/28 season.
Miha Cerkvenik, a versatile wing player, is known for his work ethic, defensive tenacity, and ability to play multiple positions. In the 2024/25 season, he delivered strong performances for Krka in the AdmiralBet ABA League and the Slovenian National Championship, earning him an invitation to the Slovenian national team camp.
“We are delighted to welcome Miha Cerkvenik to our club. With his work ethic, dedication, and quality on the court, Miha perfectly complements our vision for player and team development. We are confident that in our environment, with all the necessary conditions and professional support, he will continue to progress and significantly contribute to our team’s success. We look forward to working with him and believe his energy will excite the fans in Stožice,” said Cedevita Olimpija’s sporting director, Chechu Mulero, upon the signing.
“We became increasingly aware of Miha Cerkvenik during the season, as we faced Krka Novo Mesto eight times. He shows great potential for improvement and can become a player who provides stability for his team on the court. As a homegrown player, Cerkvenik understands what it means to wear the Cedevita Olimpija jersey, while also bringing fresh strength to our perimeter positions. We believe he will play a key role in achieving our goals next season,” said head coach of Cedevita Olimpija’s senior team, Zvezdan Mitrović, upon the signing.
“Returning to Cedevita Olimpija and Stožice feels like coming home. Deep down, I always wanted this, and I think it’s every Slovenian basketball player’s dream to play for our best club. I can’t wait for the new season to start, to begin training and competing,” said Miha Cerkvenik upon signing with Cedevita Olimpija.
Miha Cerkvenik began his basketball journey at Peter Vilfan’s Basketball School and joined Cedevita Olimpija (then Union Olimpija) in the youth categories, first wearing the Dragons’ jersey in the U12 category. He grew up as a player in Stožice, competing in all youth levels, and got his first taste of senior basketball in the 2018/19 season with the second senior team of then-Petrol Olimpija. In the 2019/20 season, he played in the 3rd Slovenian League (3. SKL), and in the 2020/21 season, as a loaned Cedevita Olimpija player, he competed with Ilirija in the 2nd Slovenian League (2. SKL). He debuted in the 1st Slovenian League (1. SKL) with Ilirija in the 2021/22 season, before moving to Krka Novo Mesto ahead of the 2022/23 season.
In the 1. SKL, Cerkvenik recorded his best stats with Krka in the 2023/24 season, averaging 12.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. In the 2024/25 season, he averaged 11.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. In the 2024/25 regional league, he was Krka’s third-leading scorer, averaging 11.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. His standout performance came against Cibona, where, in just over 28 minutes, he scored 22 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out three assists, and recorded two steals.
Miha, who will turn 24 in November, has recently become an occasional member of the Slovenian men’s national basketball team, playing in three EuroBasket qualification games this year and three Olympic qualification games. In the EuroBasket qualifiers, he averaged 6.0 points and 1.3 rebounds per game, while in the Olympic qualifiers, he averaged 2.8 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.
