The senior squad of Cedevita Olimpija defeated Kansai Helios Domžale in Thursday’s semifinal of the SPAR Cup by a score of 98:75 securing their place in the Cup final. The Final will take place on Friday at 8:00 PM, and the Dragons will have to wait for the outcome of the second semifinal between Krka and Šenčur to find out their opponent.
In the first semifinal of the Spar Cup Final Four tournament, which is being held on Thursday and Friday in Šenčur, the senior team of Cedevita Olimpija defeated Kansai Helios Domžale from Domžale by 98:75, earning a spot in Friday’s final. The Dragons will therefore be chasing their fifth consecutive cup title on Friday, and their 25th overall cup trophy in independent Slovenia. At the same time, the defending champions will be competing for their 15th consecutive title in competitions organized under the auspices of the Basketball Federation of Slovenia.
The final will be played on Friday at 8:00 PM at Šenčur Sports Hall. The finalist will be determined by the second semifinal matchup between Krka and the tournament hosts, Šenčur.
GAME REPORT:
The Dragons quickly made their ambitions clear on the court of the sports hall in Šenčur, building a nine-point lead over the team from Domžale by the end of the first quarter. The Domžale side did not give up and tried everything in their power to turn the tide of the game, but they were unsuccessful. When Jaka Blažič hit a three-pointer at the sound of the buzzer signaling the end of the first half, he extended his team’s lead to 13 points (51:38).
In the second half, the Dragons controlled the course of the game without major difficulties, and the team from Ljubljana celebrated their advancement to the SPAR Cup final.
For Cedevita Olimpija, Matthew Hurt was the top scorer with 21 points. Umoja Gibson scored 20 points, while Žiga Daneu added 13.
