Cedevita Olimpija defeated EuroLeague team Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet 87:86 on Monday in Stožice in the derby of the seventh round of the regular season of the AdmiralBet ABA League.
The Cedevita Olimpija senior team celebrates its fourth consecutive win, the third at home, and its fifth overall this season in the AdmiralBet ABA League regular season. On Monday, in the seventh-round derby at Arena Stožice, the team coached by Zvezdan Mitrović beat Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet — the leading team of the elite EuroLeague — by 87:86. After six games in the group stage of the competition, Cedevita Olimpija now has five wins and one loss, placing them firmly near the top of the standings.
The Dragons are in the middle of a stretch of four straight home games. On Wednesday at 18:30, Hamburg arrives in Stožice for a EuroCup matchup, and the Ljubljana team will look to record their third straight win in the EuroCup, which would keep them right near the top of Group A. In the seventh round game of the AdmiralBet ABA League against Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet, the Dragons dictated an exceptionally fast pace throughout. After the first quarter, the team from Ljubljana led by seven points (23:16), by halftime by four (48:44), and after 30 minutes of play the visitors briefly pulled ahead and took a one-point lead (65:66). In the final quarter, the players coached by Zvezdan Mitrović once again took control of the game. After David Škara made a free throw 80 seconds before the end, they were ahead by as many as seven points (85:78). The Belgrade team still managed to bring the game to an exciting finish, but they were unable to equalize before the end.
Umoja Gibson was Cedevita Olimpija’s top scorer with 18 points. Aleksej Nikolić added 14, DJ Stewart 11, and Jaka Blažič had 10.
