Second loss of the week against Zvezda

The players of Cedevita Olimpija lost to Crvena zvezda mts for the second time in a row this week in the backlog match of the 24th round of the ABA League on Sunday in Stožice (72:89).

Cedevita Olimpija suffered their second consecutive defeat in the ABA League on Sunday, both against Crvena zvezda mts. After the people of Belgrade were better with 82:81 in the legendary ‘Pionir’ on Wednesday after the controversial end of the match, the Euroleague team of Zvezda was also better than the Dragons in Stožice on Sunday. In the remaining match of the 24th round of the ABA League, after 40 minutes of play, the scoreboard in the largest Slovenian sports hall showed 89:72 in favor of the red and white team.

In the first quarter, the Dragons parried the Crvena zvezda perfectly and after ten minutes of play on the wings of the excellent Kendrick Perry, they led with 23:20. This was followed by a drop in the game, and the Belgrade team took advantage of this and took 12 points (44:32) to the main break. After coming out of the locker room, the Ljubljana team played better, but unfortunately in the end that was not enough to win.

Perry stopped at 29 points, followed by Jaka Blažič with 14 points.

The hard rhythm of the matches will be continued by the team of Ljubljana on Tuesday. In Zagreb’s Dražen Petrović Basketball Center, they will face Cibona at 8.30 pm in the remaining match of the 23rd round of the ABA League. In the regular part of the regional competition Dragons, only one more test awaits, next Tuesday Mega Soccerbet will play in Ljubljana. In the meantime, Cedevita Olimpija will also be active in the national championship, for the first time on Thursday, when it will play in Podčetrtek.

“Congratulations to the Crvena zvezda for winning. Unfortunately, we were not right, we only played at certain moments. We didn’t pass the ball the way we should, we weren’t right in the defense. The star forces you into such things, as it is a great team that plays very well in defense. We lost 16 balls and failed to parry in the jump. We had a few moments, but that is unfortunately not enough to win over Crvena zvezda.”

Kendrick Perry, player of Cedevita Olimpija:
“We weren’t real most of the match. When you make so many mistakes against a team like Crvena zvezda mts, you will end up paying for it. We have to swallow this defeat and continue working, as we have two more matches ahead of us. We have to correct mistakes and be ready to step on the floor in the next match.”
