In the seventh round of the 7DAYS EuroCup Cedevita Olimpija has demonstrated a good performance and was close to the major comeback, but in the end they were a bit too short. The hosts have celebrated the win with the score of 77:70 in the end.
The final score was the consequence of the slow start the the game by the Dragons, so the hosts went up by no less than 17 points already in the first half. In the second one, the Dragons fought back hard and even managed to tie the game in the final quarter, but as it turned out, this was not enough to complete the comeback, as the Italian squad have quickly pulled away to the double-digit lead and in the end prevailed by 7 points (77:70).
For Cedevita Olimpija, Jacob Pullen was the most efficient amongst scorers this time, as he contributed 14 points and Edo Murić added 12. Jaka Blažič had 10 points alongside no less than 12 rebounds.
Next test is up for the Dragons on Saturday, when they will be hosting SC Derby at home in Stožice Arena in Ljubljana.
STATEMENTS AFTER THE GAME:
Miro Alilović, assistant coach of Cedevita Olimpija:
“In the match with Umana Reyer, we showed two different faces in our game. We can’t be happy with the first half, as we let the opponent go to the main break with an advantage of 17 points. This is absolutely too much at this competitive level, it is very difficult to reverse such a difference. Nevertheless, the reaction of our players in the third quarter was very good. From minute to minute we reduced the difference, but in the end our turnovers and our lack of concentration in offense cost us the victory.”
Edo Murić, player of Cedevita Olimpija:
“We opened the match too sleepy and got too many easy baskets in the first half. We showed our character in the third quarter, got back into the fight for the win, and in the end we were too tired, and our rivals also hit some hard shots. Umana Reyer deservedly won. We are going back to work and we hope to record another victory on Saturday.”
