Cedevita Olimpija squad has suffered its first defeat of the 7DAYS EuroCup season, as Frutti Extra Bursaspor prevailed with the score of 93:84 in Bursa.
The Dragons have been the ones that started the game in a better fashion than the hosts and were leading by five points as the opening quarter finished (21:26). However, the next two quarters have brought a major comeback as Bursaspor won both the second and the third quarters and combined they were better by 16 points between the 10th and 30th minutes. That’s what helped them to enter the final part of the clash with the double-digit advantage, as they were up by 11 points.
In the final quarter, the Dragons fought hard in order to return into the battle for the victory, but haven’t managed to come up with a major comeback. In the end, they have lacked 9 points to reach their opponents and lost 93:84.
This is the first defeat this season for the squad of Slovenian capital Ljubljana in the 7DAYS EuroCup, as they have prevailed previously over Gran Canaria and Bourg and are now on a 2:1 record after 3 rounds played.
For Cedevita Olimpija Jaka Blažič has been the most efficient in terms of scoring, as he had 20 points, while his American teammates in the backcourt of the Dragons’ squad Jacob Pullen and Marcus Keene scored 16 apiece.
QUOTES AFTER THE GAME:
Jurica Golemac, Cedevita Olimpija Head Coach:
“The referees have allowed very physical game and we just could not adjust to that. This is the reason why we received 92 points and we need to be better in the next game.”
Jaka Blažič, Cedevita Olimpija player:
“It has been a tough road game, just the way we expected that. We have opened the game well, with great focus both on defense and offense. But then Bursa started playing very physically on defense and we just did not know how to respond to this. They turned the game around in second and third quarters. This problem for us, as we haven’t been able to adapt to physical game of our opponents on the road, has been happening to us a couple of times this season and we need to improve this.”
