The senior team of Cedevita Olimpija has the first reinforcement! The team of the current Slovenian national, cup and supercup champions has strengthened with Jan Kosi, which we were able to watch in the Krka jersey last season.
Cedevita Olimpija started with team reinforcements in the senior team before the start of the new competition season 2022/23. The current Slovenian national, cup and super cup champions have strengthened their position at the power forward position with Jan Kosi. The latter wore the Krka Novo mesto jersey last season, and will stay in Ljubljana for at least the next two seasons.
“I am very happy to join Cedevita Olimpija. The club has a rich history, and the organization is at the top level,” said Jan Kosi when signing the contract with the Ljubljana team. “I can’t wait to get together with my teammates and for the new competition season to start, but at the same time I’m already looking forward to meeting the fans.”
“Jan Kosi is our first reinforcement in the new competition season. Jan has experience playing in the regional league, now he will also be able to experience playing at the European level. We believe that Jan will take a step forward in his career with us and at the same time help us with the goals we will set for the new competition season,” said the Sports Director of the Ljubljana club, Sani Bečirović, upon Kosi’s arrival in Cedevita Olimpija. The head coach of the Dragons, Jurica Golemac, who has already worked with Kosi at Koper Primorska, said when the first reinforcement arrived: “We are happy that Jan has joined Cedevita Olimpija. We know each other well, we have worked together before and he will help us achieve our goals in the coming season. Jan is still a young guy who can progress, but he is very well-skilled, both physically and tactically, and he will definitely help us in the season ahead.”
Jan Kosi started his career in Šoštanj’s Elektra, and wore the jersey of the team from Šaleška dolina between 2013 and 2016. This was followed by a move to the Slovenian Coast, where he was part of Primorska until 2020. With the ‘Tigers’, Kosi won the title of Slovenian cup champion three times in a row, and in the 2018/19 season he also became the national champion and won the title of champion of the second regional league with Koper.
This was followed by a move to Novo mesto’s Krka, with which he became the Slovenian cup champion in 2021, and he also wore the Novo mesto jersey in the 2021/22 season and played in the Slovenian national championship and regional league.
Kosi, who will turn 26 on October 18, played in 19 games in the regional league in the 2021/22 season, averaging 7.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. He competed in 19 games in the national championship and recorded 7.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.
Jan Kosi also presented himself to Slovenian fans in the jersey of the Slovenian men’s national team and played for the team in the Qualifiers for the 2019 World Cup and the Qualifiers for EuroBasket 2022. He played in seven games and scored a total of 30 points. In 2015 and 2016, Kosi also competed in two European Division A championships for national teams U20. In 2016, he played in seven games and averaged 9.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.
