Entering the new regional season at home against Borac

On Sunday at 21.00, Cedevita Olimpija’s players will face Borac Mozzart from Čaček in the first round of the regional league in Arena Stožice. Tickets to watch the match are now available.

After the players of Cedevita Olimpija successfully entered the new competition season 2022/23 with a celebration at the Slovenian SuperCup 2022 in Škofja Loka a week ago, the team of head coach Jurica Golemac is facing the opening game of the new regional season. Borac Mozzart is coming to Arena Stožice on Sunday at 21.00.

During this year’s preparatory period, the Borac Mozzart team played seven preparatory matches. The Serbian team won four times, lost twice and drew once in a friendly. Undoubtedly, the biggest scalp of this year’s preparatory period was achieved by the Čačak team on September 6, when they beat Euroleague Partizan NIS with a score of 94:84. In total, Borac Mozzart played four preparatory matches with competitors from the regional league, defeating Beograd and Mornar from Bar, but losing against FMP and Budućnost VOLI. The match against the teams from Podgorica was also the last for Borac in this year’s preparatory period, the scoreboard showed 96:79 in favor of the semi-finalists from last season.

Cedevita Olimpija concluded the preparatory period with three consecutive victories in preparatory matches, while the Dragons played five of them this summer. Last Friday, the people of Ljubljana won their third consecutive Slovenian Supercup title with a 112:85 victory against Helios Suns from Domžale in Škofja Loka. Yogi Ferrell, who scored 27 points, was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the SuperCup, while Amar Alibegović (17), Alen Omić, Marko Jeremić (both 13 each), Josh Adams (12) and Rok Radović (10) also scored in double figures.

“The first game of the new season is ahead of us. For now, we don’t know how we will look in the matches, because we have not been together for enough time. So far everything is looking good in training, the boys are working hard. Borac, who is always an unfavorable opponent, is coming to us. During the preparatory period, the team from Čačak also defeated Partizan. The team has been together for a long time, and has added some players, plays fast and modern basketball with a lot of shooters, and is led from the bench by an excellent young coach who is doing a very good job. We will have to be focused and ready for their, I would say, non-specific game, because even tall players are dangerous when shooting from a distance. On this occasion, I invite all the fans to the match, as we will need their help in each of our matches,” said the head coach of the Ljubljana team, Jurica Golemac, before the start of the new regional season.

“We managed to put together a good team, so the main goal in every game will be victory. We start the new regional season on Sunday at home with a match against Borac. We know that it is a very dangerous team that has a lot of character. We are aware that we will have to play Sunday’s game and all the others that follow with maximum commitment, give our best, if we want to celebrate the victory on our home floor. I hope that the stands of Stožice will be nicely filled on Sunday. We all know that support from fans means a lot to us. When the stands are full, we definitely play better. That’s why I invite all the fans to join us on Sunday and to start writing the story of the new season together,” Cedevita Olimpija captain Edo Murić said before Sunday’s match.
