Cedevita Olimpija is expecting Umane Reyer basketball players on Wednesday at 8 pm in Stožice in the 16th round of the 7DAYS EuroCup group stage. The Dragons are facing a new important test in the European Cup, and they will be chasing their sixth consecutive European victory on the home court, and the eleventh in total in both international competitions in which they are competing this season.
Tickets to watch the showdown with the Venetian team are already available, and a live stream will be available on Euroleague TV.
In the 7DAYS EuroCup, the Cedevita Olimpija basketball players have not lost since January 26, and they have recorded five consecutive victories in this period. The last one was registered last week, when they defeated the famous Virtus Segafredo in Bologna with 86:74, and on Saturday they played in the regional league in Zadar and beat the locals with a score of 92:77. Five basketball players of the green-orange team scored a double-digit number of points, the most, 22, was recorded in the statistics by Jacob Pullen.
Umana Reyer’s basketball players are currently in sixth place in Group B, with seven wins and eight losses after 15 games. In the last three trials in the European Cup, the Venetians, despite a good game, suffered three consecutive defeats, the last one on Friday in the remaining match of the 11th round, when they played in Turkey and lost to Frutti Extra Bursaspor (66:80).
In the last round of the Italian national championship, Virtus Segafredo and Umana Reyer competed against each other, and the victory, with the result of 81:77, was recorded by the basketball players from Bologna. For the Venetians, Jordan Theodore and Mitchell Watt each scored 15 points, with Theodore picking up seven rebounds and giving seven assists.
In the first clash of teams this season, the victory was celebrated by the locals in Venice. After a good introduction to the match with the Venetians, when the Dragons took the lead with 14: 5 after five minutes of play, the home team dominated the floor and won 17 points (45:28) until the main break. Immediately at the beginning of the third quarter, Reyer’s advantage jumped to 47:29, but then the Ljubljana team woke up and returned to the game with a partial result of 26: 8. Unfortunately, they did not manage to turn the match in their favor, as they made too many mistakes at the end of the match and the home team was looking forward to the victory with 77:70.
STATEMENTS AHEAD OF THE GAME:
Jurica Golemac, head coach of Cedevita Olimpija:
“Umana Reyer is coming to Stožice, and this will be the fourth consecutive visit for our rivals. It is an extremely high-quality team that has greatly changed its composition and, among other things, brought in two new players, Jordan Theodore and the Slovenian national team player Jordan Morgan. In Valencia and Bologna, the Venetians were in the lead for most of the match, but did not hold out until the end. Certainly Umana Reyer is a team that is among the best in our group. They play specifically, with a lot of zone defense and takeovers, so we’re going to have to focus on their game in defense. Our game in defense will have to be physical, better than in previous matches, we will also have to be in the jump, as our rivals have very athletic players. This will definitely be one of the ways to succeed. I invite the fans to join us in as big as number as possible, as we will really need their help. I really hope that the match will be the most visited so far this season, because the guys deserve it.”
Yogi Ferrell, player of Cedevita Olimpija:
“We know Umana Reyer is a very good team. Under both rims our competitors like to play physically and they are very good at it. We are facing a difficult test and we will have to do our best if we want to record a new victory. I invite all the fans to join us. With their energy, the Arena comes to life, it is also easier for us to play. We want them to join us in as big as numbers as possible.”
