KK Cedevita Olimpija is delighted to announce the contract extension with young and promising Slovenian national team player Žiga Daneu. The new agreement, which will keep Žiga in Ljubljana at least until the end of the 2026/27 competitive season, reaffirms the club’s commitment to developing homegrown talent.
Žiga Daneu, who comes from a renowned basketball family—his father is Jaka Daneu, and his grandfather is the legendary Ivo Daneu—has been part of Cedevita Olimpija’s system since his youth. He also honed his skills at Ljubljana’s Ilirija and Domžale’s Kansai Helios before returning to the Ljubljana club ahead of the 2024/25 season. There, he earned opportunities in both the BKT EuroCup and the AdmiralBet ABA League, while also being named the MVP of the Slovenian SuperCup.
With his strong performances, Žiga earned a call-up to the Slovenian senior men’s national team, for which he played in four official matches during the EuroBasket 2025 qualifiers.

“We are pleased to have reached an agreement with Žiga Daneu to extend his contract. Žiga is an important part of our team, and his dedication greatly contributes to the development of the team and the club. We look forward to continued collaboration and believe he will continue to successfully represent Cedevita Olimpija’s colors. We certainly expect even more from him in the upcoming season compared to what he showed in the past season,” said Cedevita Olimpija’s sports director, Chechu Mulero, upon announcing the contract extension with Žiga Daneu.

“Žiga performed and played very well during the preseason and at the start of the season, as we could all see at the Super Cup, where he received the MVP award. Unfortunately, an unlucky injury occurred in the first game in Železnik, which made it difficult for him to regain his true rhythm. Nevertheless, through hard work in training and individual efforts, he earned a spot on the Slovenian senior national team. In the next season, we all expect a lot from Žiga, especially that he shows even more than he did in the past season,” said the head coach of the Dragons’ senior team, Zvezdan Mitrović, regarding the contract extension with Daneu.

“I’m looking forward to the next season, as it’s certainly everyone’s desire to show even greater enthusiasm and achieve more success. At the same time, I hope that the fans will also come to Stožice with joy, just as they did in the second half of the last season,” said Žiga Daneu upon extending his contract with Cedevita Olimpija.

In the 2024/25 season, Žiga Daneu appeared in 19 regional league games and nine EuroCup matches. In the EuroCup, he averaged just under nine minutes on the court, contributing 1.4 points and 1.1 rebounds per game. In the regional league, he averaged 1.0 points and 1.2 rebounds in 6.6 minutes per game. At the Slovenian SuperCup in Laško last September, he scored 16 points with perfect shooting (5/5 for two, 2/2 for three) and grabbed three rebounds. Žiga also successfully represented the Dragons in the national championship playoffs, where he received more playing time—in the quarterfinals against GGD Šenčur, he averaged 11.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, in the semifinals against Podčetrtek 6.0 points, and in the finals against Krka 2.5 points per game. In the 2024/25 season, Žiga won all three domestic titles with the Ljubljana club.
With Žiga’s contract extension, Cedevita Olimpija confirms its commitment to nurturing talented players who will shape the future of the club and Slovenian basketball.
