In front of the Cedevita Olimpija basketball players is the historic first home game of the second part of the 7DAYS EuroCup. In the second round, Budućnost VOLI is coming to Ljubljana, and it will be possible to watch the live television broadcast on Šport TV 1.
Behind the closed doors of the Stožen beauty, the basketball players of Cedevita Olimpija will clash with Budućnost VOLI on Tuesday at 20.30. Tuesday will be the day for the Dragons’ home debut in the second part of the 7DAYS EuroCup, and for the first time in history, the best 16 teams of the European Cup will be played on Slovenian territory. The Dragons will try to correct the impression from the first round of the second part of the competition in Bologna on Tuesday against the rivals from the ABA League, with whom they will then meet again on Thursday at 19.00 in the remaining match of the regional competition.
It will be possible to watch the live television broadcast of the match on Šport TV 1.
Cedevita Olimpija was last seen by Slovenian basketball fans last Wednesday, when the Ljubljana team played in Bologna against the main favorite to win the 7DAYS EuroCup title, Virtus. The Dragons started the match perfectly, but in the end the second quarter was fatal in the fight for victory, which the head coach Jurica Golemec’s team lost with 16:35. In the Virtus Segafredo Arena, after 40 minutes of play, it was 90:76 in favor of the hosts. The most playful in the ranks of the Ljubljana team were Jaka Blažič (25), Kendrick Perry (22) and Mikael Hopkins (10), who together scored 57 out of 76 points for Cedevita Olimpija.
The Podgorica team entered the second part of the European Cup with a reliable victory on the home court against the French Bourg. After 40 minutes of play, the scoreboard showed 108: 80 in favor of Buducnost VOLI, and five players in blue and white jerseys scored double-digit points. With 17 points, seven assists, three steals and two rebounds, Nikola Ivanović was the most efficient basketball player in the home team in the end.
STATEMENTS AHEAD OF THE GAME:
Jurica Golemac, head coach of Cedevita Olimpija:
“Buducnost VOLI plays the best basketball among all teams in the ABA League. The Podgorica team had problems, but it can be seen that the break came in handy, as the players rested and refreshed themselves. They play with a lot of energy, and this was also evident in Saturday’s match with Partizan NIS. Buducnost is certainly the favorite before Tuesday’s match, as it has a long bench and two top players in each playing position. If we want the result in Tuesday’s match to be positive, we will have to give a lot more than in the last matches. Above all, I have in mind physical contact. We will have to think about the individuals of our competitors and how to stop them, and take advantage of small fouls to keep them from playing their games.”
Kendrick Perry, player of Cedevita Olimpija:
“Budućnost VOLI is a very strong team in offense. They know, what they want. We have to make it tough for them. Their main guys have to work for every possession. Defensively, we have to stay more than solid for 40 minutes. In the past, we had good defensive games, and then two or three minutes, when we got out of the rhythm. We need to focus on that most importantly. The things, that’s been killing us in the past few games, is rebounding, in offense and defense. If we take care of those two things, we’ll be in pretty good shape.”
