Žiga Daneu will be part of senior team in the upcoming season!

In the new 2024/25 season, Žiga Daneu will also be a part of Cedevita Olimpija’s team. Žiga is returning to Dragons Familiy after two seasons spent as a player on loan with Kansai Helios Domžale and Ilirija.

After two seasons, which he spent first with Ilirija and then with Kansai Helios, we will once again be able to follow Žiga Daneu in Cedevita Olimpija jersey. Žiga has signed a contract with the Ljubljana club, which is valid at least until the end of the season ahead of us. Žiga Daneu has been part of the structure of Cedevita Olimpija since his early youth. His grandfather is the legendary Ivo Daneu, and his father is Jaka Daneu, and both of them, each in their own way, left their mark on the Ljubljana club and Slovenian basketball.

“When I look back, I feel a bit old, because I have been part of the club for a long time in my young career, but certainly playing in the Cedevita Olimpija jersey is the best part of my career so far. I’m glad to be back in the Dragon family. I am used to playing in the Slovenian national championship, I also played in the Alpe Adria League and the NLB ABA League 2, but this cannot be compared to the AdmiralBet ABA League and the EuroCup. There is a bit of nervousness, but everyone always told me that nervousness is just preparation, and that’s how you know you’re where you need to be. I believe that next season we will do more to do our best and that we will be more successful and that all the fans will be able to come to the matches with pleasure,” said Žiga Daneu on coming back to the Dragons Family.

In the 2020/21 season, Žiga Daneu tasted the pleasure of playing in the strongest Slovenian basketball competition for the first time in his career, and in five games he spent an average of just over 16 minutes on the floor, scoring 1.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0 .8 assists per faceoff.

In the 2021/22 season, he was part of the competition in the 3. SKL in the jersey of the Cedevita Olimpija mladi, where he averaged 21.4 points per game in 16 games, and in the Nova KBM League in the Cedevita Olimpija jersey, for which he played in eight games and averaged 9.8 points and 3.8 rebounds in just over 20 minutes on the floor. This season, Žiga also got a taste of playing in the EuroCup for the first time, where he played against Umana Reyer at home, but he failed to score in the two minutes of the game.

Daneu spent the 2022/23 season in Ljubljana’s Ilirija as a loan player from Cedevita Olimpija. He played in 28 matches of the Slovenian national championship and spent an average of just over 22 minutes on the court. During that time, he averaged 10.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.

In the 2023/24 competition season, Daneu wore the jersey of Kansai Helios Domžale, with whom he also played in the final of the national championship. He appeared in 32 games of the Slovenian national championship, and in the 19.9 minutes he spent on the floor, he averaged 6.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. At the same time, he also played in 12 games of the NLB Liga ABA 2, spending an average of 10.5 minutes on the floor and scoring 2.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.
