Former top basketball player and one of the favorites of basketball enthusiasts in Slovenia, Vlado Ilievski, is the new Sports Director of the Cedevita Olimpija. Ilievski will take up the position of the first man of the club’s sports department at the end of the 2022/23 season, and in this position he will replace Sani Becirović, who has held this position since 2019.

Vlado Ilievski is the new sports director of the Cedevita Olimpija. The former top basketball player, who during his career wore the jerseys of Partizan, Barcelona, Lottomatica, Tau Ceramica, Efes, Nymburk, Zagreb’s Cedevita and Ljubljana’s Olimpia, will succeed Sani Becirović as sports director, who is leaving the club after four seasons.

Ilievski said goodbye to basketball in 2017, and in recent years he was the president of the Ilirija Basketball Club. The Ljubljana team, based in Rožnik, settled into a stable Slovenian first division team during this period, which also played in international competitions in the 2022/23 season.

“I am satisfied and happy that, this time in a slightly different role, I am returning to a club that has given me a lot and that has been a springboard for my career. Together with all my colleagues at the club, I will invest all my energy and ambitions in this, to write a successful story, and that, together with the members of the coaching staff and the players, we are a big family that understands each other well, in which there is a positive energy that is not only felt within the collective, but also visible outside,” said Vlado Ilievski when announcing his arrival in the role of Sports Director. “It is a great honor for me personally to have become the sports director of the biggest basketball club in Slovenia and I want Slovenian sports enthusiasts and fans to recognize our work and join us in as many as possible at our home games.”

During his career, Ilievski won, among other things, the title of ABA League champion (2002), the title of Slovenian (2002), Spanish (2004), Italian (2008) and Czech (2014) national champion, and for many years he was also a member of the Macedonian national team, with which he participated in three EuroBaskets, and in 2011 he finished the competition in fourth place.

In the Dragons jersey, Ilievski played three times, namely between 2001 and 2003, between 2008 and 2009 and between 2009 and 2011, but now he is returning to the Ljubljana club in a different role.
