Victory against the EuroLeague side in the preseason opener

In the opening game of the preparation period this summer, Cedevita Olimpija squad has beaten Bayern 82:74 on the road in Munich. The game took place behind closed doors.

After almost 6 months without competition, this Thursday Cedevita Olimpija returned on the hardwood floor in Münich and started their period of a preseason games with a win against Bayern. Dragons came out victorious against five-times German champions with the final result 82:74. Jaka Blažič (21 points) and Mikael Hopkins (15) were the leading scorers for Ljubljana team.

The final result was not in the forefront this time, the most important fact is that the Dragons stepped on the floor for the first time after the 10th March, and they used the game against one of Europe’s elite teams to get to know each other better. As the game was played behind closed doors and it being the first test for both teams in this preseason period, the two clubs agreed not to publish the stats. Cameras were not present by the court either.

The Ljubljana team will face the German giant again on Wednesday, September 9, when Bayern arrives at the Stožice Arena. Already on Thursday evening, our team will travel to Ulm, where they will face old acquaintances from last year’s preparation games, Rathiophram Ulm, on Saturday at 13:00.

“ It’s nice to win, but it was a preseason game. Certainly, neither team is in their optimal form at the moment. We showed good energy and defense, 74 points conceded from the EuroLeague team is a stat that gives us hope for the future. The boys have to stay focused, we will continue to work and to get better and better with each training session.”

Kendrick Perry, player of Cedevita Olimpija:
“ It’s good, there is room for improvement, but anytime you can start the preseason with a win specially against a competitive EuroLeague team it’s a good feeling. We controlled the number of turnovers as a team, we have to keep that up. We have to improve our rebounding and free throws but it’s still early. Overall we fought hard and we were able to come away with the win.”
