The Cedevita Olimpija team will play the first round match of the Nova KBM League for the champion on Thursday at 7 pm in the Stožice Arena, while the Dragons will face the players of the GGD Šenčur in a slightly changed line-up.
The member team of Cedevita Olimpija is entering the final part of the season, which will be shaped by appearances in three different international competitions. The Dragons are still in the run for a breakthrough in the finals of both international competitions in the 7DAYS EuroCup and the ABA League, and the Nova KBM League for the champion is starting, in which the Ljubljana team will enter in a slightly younger team.
The members of the Cedevita Olimpija youth team will join the member team in the second part of the national championship in training and matches, and the team will be led from the bench by the assistant head coach of Jurica Golemac, Teo Čizmić. The Young Dragons will thus be given the opportunity to play at the highest competitive level in Slovenia, and the players from the Stožice team will be able to focus even more on their performances in both international competitions. At the same time, all young basketball players who have been completely removed from the courts by the epidemiological situation in Slovenia in the last four months will use this time for a quality training process and proving in the Champions League.
The first test will be extremely demanding, as the basketball players from Šenčur are coming to the beauty of Stožen, who finished the first part of the national championship season in second place, with 13 wins and five defeats. At the same time, the team of Šenčur also includes the most useful player of the first part of the national championship, former Dragon and Edo Murić’s brother, Dino Murić, who averaged 19.2 points and 11.1 rebounds per game in the first part of the season.
It will be possible to watch the match live on the YouTube channel and Facebook page of the Basketball Federation of Slovenia.
STATEMENTS AHEAD OF THE GAME:
Teo Čizmić, assistant coach of Cedevita Olimpija:
“The clash with Šenčur is our first in the Champions League, and we will face Šenčur only a day after the away game in Novo mesto at Krka in the ABA League. Thursday’s match is important for us, but we will see in which team we will step on the floor. The Šenčur team is a mixture of young and experienced players, and most of these older players have already played for Cedevita Olimpija. It will certainly be very interesting to watch our players find themselves in such a situation.”
Dan Duščak, player of Cedevita Olimpija:
“First match in the Championship Round is ahead of us. We know, there are tough tests ahead of us, but we also know, what our ambitions are. We will do everything in our power to return the title of the National Champion in Stožice.”
