After Cedevita Olimpija did not step on the floor in Zadar on Saturday, the Dragons will face the Dolomiti Energia Trento team in the Round 9 of the 7DAYS EuroCup on Tuesday at 18.00 in the Stožice Arena.
A week dedicated to the One Team project is starting in the 7DAYS EuroCup. This is a socially responsible project of the strongest European basketball competition in the Euroleague, which, with the help of individual activities of each club, operates within the basic theme, which is integration into the community. In the 2020/21 season, Alen Hodžić is the ambassador of the One Team project at Cedevita Olimpija, and the Ljubljana club is cooperating with the Malči Beličeve Youth Home.
The players of Cedevita Olimpija were again left without a duel in the regional ABA League on Saturday due to infections with their rivals, so in the Round 9 of the 7DAYS EuroCup they will face Italian Trento on Tuesday at 18.00 in Stožice. The match will once again take place behind closed doors, and it will be possible to watch the live television broadcast on Šport TV 1.
The Dragons in the European Cup continue to chase their place among the Top 16 teams of the competition, and they will certainly have an extra motive to prove themselves on Tuesday’s match, as they will want to settle scores with the Italians from the Dolomites in October. In the fourth round, Trento celebrated the victory on the home floor with 61:51. Before the last matches of the group stage, the Italian team has already secured its place in the second part of the competition, and Cedevita Olimpija will try to do so in the coming week.
Trento’s top scorer in the 7DAYS EuroCup this season is Gary Browne, averaging 15.6 points, 6.8 assists and 4.1 rebounds. Trento is coming to Ljubljana after the victory over Venezia in the Italian national championship (79:71), and Browne was the most efficient player of his team with 24 points and 10 assists. JaCorey Williams scored 22 points and nine rebounds in the stats.
STATEMENTS AHEAD OF THE GAME:
Jurica Golemac, head coach of Cedevita Olimpija:
“Trento outplayed us in the first clash in Italy. The Italians play great, especially in defense. It’s a very physical team that plays smart basketball. Also in the Italian national championship, our competitors on Tuesday have very good results. The match will not be easy, but we are coming to the showdown with a positive mentality and self-confidence. We are aware that we have quality, and we all want revenge for the defeat in Italy.”
Rion Brown, player of Cedevita Olimpija:
“If we want to win against Trento, we will have to pay attention to details, and what I have in mind is the rebounding and the physical game. In all the matches where we had some problems, we lost the rebounding battle, but at the same time we did not oppose the competitors firmly enough. The most important thing is to step on the floor decisively, and above all, to get a rebound.”
