Cedevita Olimpija’s squad was strengthened in the high playing positions before the resumption of the season with the 211-centimeter tall Rašid Mahalbahić.

Cedevita Olimpija will enter the continuation of the 2023/24 competitive season strengthened with a center with Euroleague experience, Rašid Mahalbašić. The latter signed a contract with the Ljubljana’s club, which makes the player possible to leave in case of a better offer. The squad of head coach Simone Pianigiani has thus strengthened under both hoops, where Mahalbašić will come to the aid of Karlo Matković, Shawn Jones and Alexander Shashkov.

Rašid Mahalbašić, who was born in Jesenice, started his career in the Austrian club Kelag Wörthersee Piraten, and his sports journey led him to Fenerbahce, Tofas, Split, Zlatorog, Prokom, Nymburk, Astana, Nizhny Novgorod, Belediye, Real Betis, Oldenburg, Monaco, Breogan and Burgos.

He experienced playing in the elite Euroleague for the first time in the 2012/13 competitive season, in which he wore the jersey of Prokom. He played in ten games and averaged 9.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists in just over 21 minutes spent on the court. In the jerseys of Nymburk, Nizhny and Oldenburg, he played in the European Cup, where he made a total of 53 appearances. He averaged just under 24 minutes per game, averaging 12.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists. In the 2019/20 competition season, he was also selected as the most valuable player in the first round of matches between the best 16 teams in the EuroCup.

Mahalbašić was twice selected in the best five of the German national championship (2019, 2020), in 2016 he was selected in the second five of the VTB United League, and in 2015 he was part of the best five of the national championship in Kazakhstan. There he also won the title of national champion in the same year, and in 2014 he also won the title of cup champion in the Czech Republic.
