After the first reinforcement in the Cedevita Olimpija member team, it is time for the coaching staff to be strengthened a bit as well. Teo Čizmić, who is leaving for Hungary, will be replaced by Miro Alilović, who has worked at the Ljubljana club once already in his career and has been a part of Belgrade’s Dynamic since 2019, as assistant to head coach Jurica Golemac.
The coaching staff of the Cedevita Olimpija team will be stronger in the new competition season for Miro Alilović, a Slovenian expert who is returning to Slovenia after two years in Serbia.
Miro Alilović, a 44-year-old from Kamnik, started his coaching career at Kodeljevo near Slovan. The trip to Ljubljana’s Olimpija led him for the first time in the 2010/11 season, and Alilović worked twice as the head coach of the Dragons. In his coaching career, Alilović established himself primarily as an excellent coach with younger basketball players, and most recently in Slovenia he worked as the head of the profession and head coach of the youth and cadet team of Koper Primorska. From the 2018/19 season onwards, he also played the role of coach of a member team that competed in lower member league competitions.
Prior to that, he worked in Prague from 2014 to 2017, and for the last two years he was the head coach of Belgrade’s Dynamic.
For many years, Alilović was also part of the Slovenian national team, both in the younger age categories and in the member-selected team. In the younger national teams, he spent most of his years as the head coach of the U20 national team, which he also led at four European championships. In 2014, Alilović was also the head coach of the Slovenian national team until the age of 18.
Sani Bečirović, sports director of Cedevita Olimpija:
“We are very happy to have reached an agreement with Miro Alilović, as we are aware that an expert with many years of experience, which Miro certainly is, will immediately join the work of our member team. Alilović knows the Ljubljana environment, he has already worked with Jurica in Koper, so I have no doubt that they will work well together in Ljubljana. We are pleased that part of our professional team is an expert who gets to know working with young people. His presence in our staff will be an added value in the segment of development of young basketball players. We are all aware that the leap between youth basketball and member basketball is extremely demanding, and with Alilović’s experience we will try to make this leap a little easier for our current and future young basketball players. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our former assistant head coach, Teo Čizmić, for everything he has done for Cedevita Olimpija in the last two seasons. We wish him all the best in his future coaching career.”
Miro Alilović, assistant coach of Cedevita Olimpija:
“I am happy to be returning to Cedevita Olimpija. I have already worked in the Ljubljana club, so I know the environment, and it is very nice to see that the organization of the club’s work is at a very high level. I am also happy to be working with Jurica Golemac again. Jurica and I worked very well together in Koper and I believe that the same will happen in Ljubljana. An environment has come to life in Stožice in which every player wants to improve and I believe that with the right approach to work and with joint efforts we will achieve all the goals we will set for the coming season.”
