Cedevita Olimpija strengthened its shooting guard and forward playing position with the child of the Ljubljana club, Mirko Mulalić from Ljubljana. The latter has already played in the jersey of the club from Stožice in the teams of younger age categories, and last time we were able to follow him in Ljubljana in the 2019/20 season.

After the 2019/20 season, which ended prematurely due to the coronavirus pandemic, we will be able to follow the child of the Ljubljana club, Mirko Mulalić, in the Cedevita Olimpija jersey once again. Born in Ljubljana, he is returning to the Slovenian capital after wearing the jerseys of Rabotnički and Alba Fehervar in the last two seasons.

Mirko Mulalić started his career at the then Union Olimpija, and got his first chance in the team jersey in the 2007/08 season. Prior to that, he wore the jersey of the junior team between 2004 and 2007, and in 2008 he played for Kranj’s Triglav as a loan player. In the same year, he stepped on the floor in the colors of the Škofja Loka TCG Mercator, where he stayed for two seasons, and then in 2010 he transferred to Geoplin Slovan.

On Slovenian soil he also wore the jerseys of Velike Lašče, Grosuplje, Hopsi Polzela, and before the start of the 2014/15 season he went to Krka in Novo mesto. In 2016, he returned to the Dragons for one season, then in 2017 he went to Sixt Primorska, and spent the 2018/19 season in Bulgaria, near the Balkans.

In the ABA League, Mulalić played in the Krka jersey for the first time and in the 2014/15 season he averaged 9.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. On the regional scene, we had the opportunity to follow the Ljubljana sniper at the then Sixt Primorska, which played in the ABA League 2 in the 2017/18 season, and Mulalić was the best scorer of Koper in this competition with 13.1 points per game.

In 2017, Mulalić became the national champion with the Dragons, and in his career he also won the title of Slovenian cup champion four times (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018). In the 2018/19 season, he became the Bulgarian national champion with the Balkans, and in addition to the Bulgarian national championship, the club also competed in the FIBA Europe Cup. In the latter, Mulalić played in 13 games and scored 8.1 points, 3.2 assists and 2.2 rebounds in 26.6 minutes of play.

In the 2019/20 season, Mirko Mulalić stepped on the floor in the Cedevita Olimpija jersey in 17 ABA League matches, two 7DAYS EuroCup matches, all four Spar Cup games, and both Nova KBM Champions League matches. On the regional stage, he scored 2.4 points, 0.6 assists and 0.6 rebounds per game in the 12.9 minutes he spent on the pitch, while in the European Cup he scored 10 points in two games. He scored a total of six points in the Slovenian Cup competition, but failed to register among the scorers in the national championship.

In the 2021/22 season, Mulalić wore the jersey of the Hungarian team Alba Fehervar and averaged 4.5 points, 1.9 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game in eight games. In the season behind us, he played for Rabotnički in six games in the second regional league and scored 10.3 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists.

Sani Bečirović, sports director of Cedevita Olimpija:
“We are happy that Mirko Mulalić is returning to Cedevita Olimpija. Unfortunately, our first joint story in the 2019/20 season ended prematurely due to the pandemic and the interruption of the season, and I think that the fact that Mulalić decided to rejoin our team is an indication that there is no resentment between the club and the player. With his experience, Mulalić will certainly come in handy, especially in the matches of the Slovenian national championship and cup competition.”

Jurica Golemac, head coach of Cedevita Olimpija:
“Mirko Mulalić, with whom we already worked in Ljubljana in the 2019/20 season, is returning to our team. Mulalić will come to our aid in the period ahead which brings a hard rhythm of matches in three different competitions, but he will certainly be of great help in training. Mirko is a child of the Ljubljana club, so I believe that he will always do his best on the floor for the good of Cedevita Olimpija.”

Mirko Mulalić, player of Cedevita Olimpija:
“I’m happy that I’m coming back to Cedevita Olimpija. Ljubljana is my home, and this club is the one, in which I’ve made my first steps, so the feeling to put on the jersey again, will be special. The team is already set, the roles are given. I want to help the squad with my experience, and give everything I can, to help achieve goals, set in the beginning of the season.”
