Cedevita Olimpija’s senior team opened the new 2025/26 season victoriously – in their first official game, the 2025 Supercup in Polzela, the Dragons on Tuesday defeated Novo Mesto’s Krka with a score of 78:76.

Cedevita Olimpija is celebrating its sixth consecutive, and fourteenth overall, Supercup title in independent Slovenia. On Tuesday in Polzela, the Ljubljana Dragons defeated Krka for the second season in a row, with the scoreboard showing 78:76 in favor of the team from the capital. This marks the 14th consecutive trophy for the Ljubljana club in competitions under the umbrella of the Basketball Federation of Slovenia. The Dragons have remained unbeaten in Slovenian finals since 2020.

It is worth noting that the closing minutes of the game in Polzela were played by a significantly younger lineup – already at the end of the third quarter, youngsters Martin Tonejc and Mark Hukić entered the game, while in the first half Maks Ciperle thrilled the crowd in the arena with a dunk. Hukić and Ciperle stayed on the court for the entire final quarter, gaining valuable experience for their development.

The most efficient player for the Ljubljana side, Umoja Gibson, was named the Most Valuable Player of the Slovenian Supercup. Gibson finished the game with 21 points, five assists, one rebound, and a performance index rating of 21. Maks Ciperle contributed 12 points, while David Škara added 10.

Cedevita Olimpija started the game in Polzela excellently, quickly pulling away from Novo Mesto’s side, who, however, managed to catch and overtake the Dragons already in the first half, taking a one-point lead into halftime (36:35). In the third quarter, the Novo Mesto players extended their advantage to 10 points (59:49), but the heavily youthful Green-Orange squad reduced the deficit in the opening minutes of the final period (57:62). Even though Krka managed to pull away again, Ljubljana’s team remained unfazed. With determined play, they kept chipping away at the lead, first tying the score at 72:72, and then, with a three-pointer from Umoja Gibson a minute before the end, taking the lead 75:72. Krka briefly moved back in front, but just seconds before the final buzzer, Miha Cerkvenik hit a three-pointer to seal the game – 78:76 for the Dragons!
