Cedevita Olimpija squad has beaten Helios Suns of Domžale on Friday night in the Lukna Sports Hall with the score of 81:70 and won its second Slovenian Cup trophy and the 22nd overall in the history of the Slovenian Cup competition.
Cedevita Olimpija is celebrating the second trophy of the 2022/23 season. The squad, led from the bench by the head coach Jurica Golemac has beaten the Helios Suns with the score of 81:70 in the Lukna Sports Hall in Maribor and conquered the Slovenian National Cup throne for the second time in a row and for the 22nd time in the history of independent Slovenia.
It has been a close game in the first half, that the Ljubljana squad won by 5 points (38:33). In the third quarter, the winning side has made a decisive step towards the win, and when Zoran Dragić scored a three-pointer midway through the third, the Dragons were ahead by 9 (51:42). As it turned out later in the game, Helios Suns simply did not manage to arrange a comeback and Cedevita Olimpija were victorious.
Alen Omić has been named the MVP of the Spar Cup, since he achieved 8 points and 16 rebounds in the Final. He succeeded captain of Cedevita Olimpija Edo Murić in this spot, that has been named MVP a season ago in Kodeljevo.
Yogi Ferrell led the way in scoring in the final with 18 points on his record. Zoran Dragić scored 15 and Edo Murić added 10.
A national teams break is now ahead of Cedevita Olimpija. The Dragons will be back on court on 5 March, when they will be hosting Igokea m:tel in the AdmiralBet ABA League Round 20. 3 days afterwards, they will meet Lietkabelis in the 7DAYS EuroCup and both games will be played in the Stožice Arena.
