Cedevita Olimpija squad has been defeated in the Game 3 of the regional league Semi-finals by Crvena zvezda mts (78:88) and ended its regional league season.
Cedevita Olimpija has suffered a defeat with the score of 78:88 in the decisive Game 3 of the regional league Semi-finals and therefore ended its regional league season. The Dragons have accomplished their goal, set ahead of the season, for qualifying into the Top Four of the regional club basketball.
The Dragons ended the 2021/22 Regular Season with 18 wins in 26 games, placed in the fourth spot. This enabled the squad, led from the bench by head coach Jurica Golemac, to play in the Playofffs and in the Preliminary Round they have swept the series against Igokea m:tel to qualify for the Semi-finals. The battle for the Finals followed against Crvena zvezda mts, and after 2 games the score in the series was 1:1. In the third game, however, Crvena zvezda mts used their home court advantage to celebrate the win with the final score of 78:88 in a game, where they have been in front throughout the playing time.
After Crvena zvezda mts have already been up by 19 points midway through the second quarter (37:18), Cedevita Olimpija fought back and cut the gap to only 4 points in the ending of the first half and as the two sides departed for the big break, the margin was only 5 points (42:37). However, Crvena zvezda mts opened the second half with an 8:0 run in the opening 2 minutes, that put them up by 13 points again (50:37). Cedevita Olimpija fought back again and cut the gap to 6 points again 50:44, but Zvezda replied with a 17:3 run to take a 20-point lead (67:47). The battle for the Finals was over.
Yogi Ferrell has led the way in scoring for the Dragons with 25 points, while Zoran Dragić added 21.
The thoughts of Cedevita Olimpija now turn to the domestic championship, where they will play in the Finals against Helios Suns. The Finals begin on Wednesday, 20.30.
