The member team of Cedevita Olimpija defeated the German side NINERS Chemnitz 73–65 on Wednesday in front of a nicely filled Stožice Arena in the BKT EuroCup Round of 16, securing a place among the top eight teams in the competition for the second consecutive season.
Cedevita Olimpija has thus reached the BKT EuroCup quarterfinals for the second season in a row, and for the third time in the last five years overall. On Wednesday, in a well-attended Stožice Arena where a great atmosphere lasted from the first to the final minute, the Ljubljana team defeated the German squad NINERS Chemnitz 73–65 in the EuroCup Round of 16.
The team coached by head coach Zvezdan Mitrović will continue their European campaign on Tuesday at 19:30, when they travel to France for the quarterfinal against JL Bourg-en-Bresse. The French side did not play in the Round of 16 because they secured a direct spot among the top eight teams after the regular season — the team recorded 13 wins and 3 losses in 18 games.
Before that, the “Dragons” face a regional league derby on Sunday at 13:00 in Belgrade. In the third round of the second stage of the AdmiralBet ABA League, they will take on EuroLeague side Partizan Mozzart Bet.
GAME REPORT:
The visitors started the game better and held a three-point lead at halftime (36–39). However, the Dragons did not give up going into the main break and turned the game in their favor in the third quarter, taking an eight-point lead before the start of the final quarter (54–46).
The remainder of the matchup was a tense battle, but the Dragons never relinquished their lead and ultimately deservedly secured the win with a final score of 73–65.
DJ Stewart was the top scorer for the Ljubljana side with 14 points, Umoja Gibson added 12, Aleksej Nikolić scored 11, and Rok Radović contributed 10 points.
