It’s clear now that the Dragons will finish the second stage of the competition in the sixth place.
On Sunday, Cedevita Olimpija squad has suffered a defeat against Partizan Mozzart Bet in the Round 7 of the AdmiralBet ABA League Top 8 at home in Stožice. The score on the scoreboard at the end of the game has been 79:85 in favour of the visting side of Belgrade. It’s clear now that the Dragons will finish the second stage of the competition in the sixth place of the Top 8 standings. A round before, the Ljubljana side has secured itself a spot in the Playoffs.
It was a ceremonial occasion in Stožice during halftime, as Zmago Sagadin, Jure Zdovc, Jiří Welsch, Vlado Ilievski, Vladimer Boisa, Stipe Modrić, Nedim Dal, Jasmin Hukić, and Vujadin Subotić took to the court. They were all members of the then Union Olimpija team in the 2001/02 season, which won the first ABA League title. They were also joined by the original creators of the regional league, Roman Lisac, Radovan Lorbek, Josip Bilić, and Božo Miličević. The entire event took place as part of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the founding of the ABA League, while Cedevita Olimpija is also celebrating its 80th anniversary in the 2025/26 season.
The current Slovenian champions have only one more game left in the second part of the ABA League season — on Sunday at 7:00 p.m., the Dragons will face Igokea m:tel in Tivoli Hall. Igokea won the first meeting between the two teams this season in Laktaši.
GAME REPORT:
The Dragons held their own against the favored EuroLeague opponents for three quarters. After the first, they led by four points (19:15), and at halftime the score was tied at 40:40. Even half a minute before the end of the third quarter, the score was level at 57:57, but then the visitors went on a 6:0 run, taking a six-point lead (57:63) in the 31st minute. From that point on, they didn’t allow the Ljubljana team to get close enough to seriously threaten their victory again.
For Cedevita Olimpija, the most efficient player was Umoja Gibson with 25 points scored. DJ Stewart followed with 13 points, while Matthew Hurt added 10 points.
