Joan Beringer selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA Draft

The talented Cedevita Olimpija player Joan Beringer was chosen as the 17th overall pick in the first round of the NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the United States on the night from Wednesday to Thursday!

Cedevita Olimpija has a new basketball player selected in the NBA Draft! On the day when Marko Milić became the first Slovenian basketball player in history to be drafted in 1998, then playing for the Dragons, the young and talented Frenchman Joan Beringer was selected as the 17th pick in the first round by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Beringer is the second Cedevita Olimpija player in the last three years to be drafted, following Karlo Matković.

Just a few years ago, young Joan Beringer took his first basketball steps with the French club SIG Strasbourg, where he gained experience in youth category teams before moving to Cedevita Olimpija ahead of the 2024/25 competitive season.

Initially, it was planned that Beringer would play for the youth teams at the Ljubljana-based club, but upon arriving in Slovenia, he joined the senior team’s preparations in Kranjska Gora, where he impressed the coaching staff and earned a spot in the senior roster. In November 2024, upon turning 18, he also signed his first professional contract with Cedevita Olimpija.

In the 2024/25 competitive season, Joan played in 33 ABA League games and 19 EuroCup games. In the EuroCup, he averaged 4.6 points and 5.3 rebounds in just under 18 minutes per game, and with his strong performances, he finished second in the voting for the competition’s best young player. In the regional league, he averaged 4.8 points and 4.1 rebounds in 17.2 minutes on the court.
