Cedevita Olimpija captain Jaka Blažič was chosen as the Most Valuable Player of the month in the ABA League in November after two excellent games.

Slovenian national team player and captain of the Ljubljana club Jaka Blažič shines in the new competition season 2020/21. With an average of 16.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game, Blažič is currently the fourth most efficient player in the ABA League. At the same time, Jaka is the third best scorer of the regional competition.

Blažič is also among the best basketball players in the region in terms of the average number of points scored from fast breaks, as he averages 3.67, making him the fourth best player in this statistical category.

“The most important thing is that we win. In sports, only victories count. We are currently in a very good position, both in the ABA League and in the 7DAYS EuroCup. However, we still have a lot of room for improvement, and I believe that we will show even better performances later in the season,” says the MVP, adding: “I am just one of the members of the team. I perform the role assigned to me by the head coach and the entire team. I am very happy to be able to contribute to the team’s success with my good games.”

The Ljubljana club is flying high in the new season. With four wins in five ABA League matches, it is currently among the best teams in the region, and a breakthrough into the second half of the 7DAYS EuroCup is practically at hand.

The captain, however, calms the passions, and says it is necessary to go step by step.

“We are an ambitious club, so the goals are high. This season, which is force-specific due to the coronavirus pandemic, we are trying to focus primarily on the present. We go game after game, training after training, and at the same time we hope for the best possible result at the end of the season, but we are certainly on the right track,” says Jaka Blažič with optimism in her voice.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and two postponed matches, the Cedevita Olimpija players in the ABA League stepped on the floor only twice in November, recording two victories. Blažič scored a total of 45 points in two matches (average 22.5), collected 14 rebounds (average 7.0) and six assists (average 3.0). In both matches, his valorisation index was 29.
