The Cedevita Olimpija senior team will host GGD Šenčur on Tuesday at 18:00 in Stožice Arena for the second game of the national championship quarterfinal series. The Dragons lead the series 1:0 and are just one win away from advancing to the semifinals.

Following their trip to Dubai, the Cedevita Olimpija senior team faces a new challenge in the national championship quarterfinal series against GGD Šenčur. In the best-of-three series, the players coached by head coach Zvezdan Mitrović lead 1:0, and a potential victory in Tuesday’s home game could secure their place in the semifinals.

In the first game in Šenčur, the scoreboard showed 100:96 in favor of the Dragons, who secured the win after five additional minutes of play.

Entry to Stožice will be free for all visitors! After the game, all attendees are invited to the court to mingle with the senior team players.

TV BROADCAST:

The game will be available to watch live on Šport TV 1. A link to the online broadcast can be found below.

PRE-GAME QUOTE:

Gregor Glas, player of KK Cedevita Olimpija:
“We are aware that our approach in the first game in Šenčur was not the right one, while our opponents proved to be extremely dangerous. Although we will step onto the court less than 48 hours after the game in Dubai, we want to do everything to close out the quarterfinal series on Tuesday in Stožice and secure our spot in the national championship semifinals.”

GAME PREVIEW:

The Dragons are thus just one win away from advancing to the competition’s semifinals. They will aim to secure it on the Stožice court, while in the first game last week at Šenčur Sports Hall, the motivated hosts delivered an excellent performance and remained in contention for the win until the final seconds.

In Šenčur last Tuesday, the Dragons entered the game cautiously, which the hosts capitalized on, taking a six-point lead into halftime (51:45). In the third quarter, the Ljubljana team shifted into a higher gear, and after a minute of play in the fourth quarter, they took an 11-point lead (75:64) following a three-pointer by Marko Morano Mahmutović.

The Šenčur team did not give up, quickly scoring 11 consecutive points, but the Green-Orange pulled away again and held a seven-point lead (85:78) with two minutes remaining. Even that was not enough for a calm finish, as Filip Krajina forced overtime with a made free throw 31 seconds before the end. Cedevita Olimpija started the extra five minutes poorly but finished stronger, ultimately celebrating a hard-fought victory.

For GGD Šenčur, Matej Čibej (24 points, 6 rebounds) and Domen Petrovič (20 points, 8 rebounds) stood out, while seven Cedevita Olimpija players scored in double digits. The top scorers were Devante Jones (17 points) and Aleksej Nikolić (15 points).

Cedevita Olimpija played in Dubai on Sunday, where they suffered a narrow defeat (85:86) against Dubai Basketball in the first game of the regional league quarterfinal series. Despite the loss, the Dragons performed admirably in the United Arab Emirates against the favored hosts, though they fell just short of a victory in the first game.

In the final quarter, the Ljubljana team held a seven-point lead (76:69), but Dubai turned the game in their favor. The hosts led by four points (84:80) with less than two minutes remaining, and while the Dragons fought back into contention for the win, DJ Stewart’s shot for victory in the Coca Cola Arena unfortunately missed the target. Danilo Tasić was Cedevita Olimpija’s top scorer with 17 points, Brynton Lemar added 15, and Aleksej Nikolić contributed 11.
