KK Cedevita Olimpija and Mangok Mathiang have agreed to terminate the contract by mutual agreement. Medical examinations performed by Mathiang on his leg, which he injured last September, showed that his leg was in a worse condition than in May, when Mangok returned to Australia.
The Australian center of South Sudanese roots joined Cedevita Olympia last summer, but due to a leg injury he sustained in one of the last training sessions just before the official start of the season, he did not wear the Dragons jersey in any official match.
Last season, the Ljubljana club and Mathiang signed an agreement to extend the contract, and after medical examinations at the beginning of the new competition season, which showed that recovery after the operation is not going according to plan, Mathiang and Cedevita Olimpija agreed to terminate the contract.
Sani Bečirović, sports director of Cedevita Olimpija:
“Unfortunately, what we feared most happened. Mangok Mathiang will take longer to return to a normal training process than originally planned and anticipated. Therefore, we also decided to terminate the contract with Mangok before the official start of the season and before all the players join us in training. We wish him good luck in the continuation of his career, and we will try to find a solution to fill the place in his playing position.”
