The players of the Slovenian men’s national team defeated Spain 95:87 in the third round of the group stage of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, thus securing first place in Group C.
Slovenia finished the group stage of the Olympic Games in Tokyo without a hitch. The selector Aleksander Sekulić’s team defeated the Spanish national team with 95:87 in the third round, thus concluding the pre-match with three victories at the top of Group C.
The European and World champions were an extraordinary fight in the Saitama Super Arena, and the match was decided only in the last minutes of the fourt quarter. The Spaniards were already leading by 12 points in the third quarter (57:45), but the Slovenian basketball players decisively moved to the last part of the match and turned the course of the game on their court. The big turnaround was confirmed by Klemen Prepelić and Mike Tobey, who first took the lead with 88:85. Ricky Rubio returned the Spanish national team to the game, but after a few wasted actions on both sides, the victory of the Slovenian national team on the free throw line was confirmed by Prepelić and Zoran Dragić, and Edo Murić added a triple at the end of the match.
This time Jaka Blažič scored 10 points and collected four rebounds, while Edo Murić added two rebounds to eight points. Žiga Dimec scored six points in seven minutes of the game and grabbed five rebounds, while Luka Rupnik did not score among the scorers in three minutes, but collected two rebounds.
