Alen Omić is returning to Ljubljana!

The senior team of Cedevita Olimpija strengthened with Alen Omić in the center position. The returnee to the Dragon’s Nest wore the jersey of the Ljubljana club from 2012 to 2015, and in the last period he has established himself as one of the best high-ranking European players.

We will be able to follow Alen Omić again in the Cedevita Olimpija jersey! The former Slovenian national team member joined the team of head coach Jurica Golemac and strengthened the list of high-ranking players. Born in Tuzla, the 216-centimeter-tall giant wore the jersey of the Ljubljana club between 2012 and 2015, and with the Dragons he twice won the title of Slovenian Super Cup and once the title of Slovenian Cup Champion.

After finishing last season in the jersey of French JL Bourg, the holder of the 2017 7DAYS EuroCup title was without a club at the beginning of the season, and he will come to the aid of Cedevita Olimpija as a great reinforcement in the center’s playing position.

Alen Omić has been playing in the Euroleague or 7DAYS EuroCup continuously since the 2012/13 competition season. He showed his best performances in the elite basketball competition in the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons in the jerseys of Crvena zvezda mts and Budućnost VOLI. For the red and whites, he averaged 8.4 points and 3.9 rebounds in 11 games, and for the Podgorica team he played in 15 games in the 2018/19 season and scored 8.9 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. In the Euroleague, we were last able to follow Omić in the jersey of Olimpija from Milan, for which he played in 14 games and recorded 2.5 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.

In his career, Omić also defended the colors of Turkish Anadolu Efes, Israeli Hapoel Jerusalem and Spanish Gran Canaria, Joventut and Unicaja, with which he also won the European Cup in 2017. In Alen’s showcases we can also find the title of Serbian national champion from 2018 and the laurels for the most useful player in the finals of the Serbian national championship in 2018 and the award for ranking in the top five of the 7DAYS EuroCup from 2016.

Alen Omić played in 19 matches for the Slovenian men’s national team and scored a total of 146 points. He was part of the national teams in the qualifications for EuroBasket 2017, the European Championships in 2015, and the World Championships in 2014.

In the 2020/21 season, Omić wore the jersey of the French JL Bourg and played in 11 matches in the 7DAYS EuroCup. He averaged 8.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.

Sani Bečirović, sports director of Cedevita Olimpija:
“We are pleased that Alen Omić is returning to Ljubljana. It’s no secret that Allen has been our wish for a long time. We have added a basketball player to our mosaic of players with a Slovenian passport, who has experience in playing at the highest European level, and at the same time knows all the other Slovenian representatives. We believe that Omić, with its experience, energy and way of playing, can help us meet our goals, which we set before the start of this season.”

Jurica Golemac, head coach of Cedevita Olimpija:
“We are happy that Alen has signed a contract with Cedevita Olimpija. We flirted about his return for quite some time and we managed to arrange everything. This is another child of Olimpija, who wore the jersey of the Ljubljana club at a very young age, and now he has returned to Stožice as a very experienced and good player. He will definitely come to our aid in the game under both rims. Alen is a guy who has character, but I stress that he will definitely bring us extra quality and we are happy that he has come back home.”

Alen Omić, player of Cedevita Olimpija:
“I am happy to be a member of Cedevita Olimpija again and I am looking forward to playing in front of the home fans. It means a lot to me that I can play for a club with big goals, and at the same time my family is close, and they are my biggest support. I know that Cedevita Olimpija has high goals this season, so I will give everything in my power to achieve them and look forward to as many victories as possible.”
