Cedevita Olimpija will strengthen its roster for the 2025/26 season with the addition of 24-year-old, 206 cm tall Thomas Kennedy, who spent the last two seasons playing for Telekom Baskets Bonn in Germany. He has signed a one-year contract with the Slovenian champions.
Cedevita Olimpija will be stronger in the frontcourt next season with Kennedy, who is entering his third season in European basketball. Last season, he was Telekom Bonn’s most efficient player in the Basketball Champions League. He is also an occasional member of the Canadian senior national team and holds an Irish passport. Since 2022, Kennedy has appeared in three senior national team competitions, and in 2019, he was part of Canada’s U19 team at the FIBA World Cup.
“We’re excited to have Thomas Kennedy join us for the new season. Over the last two years in Bonn, he has shown significant progress and proven that he can be an extremely valuable contributor on both ends of the floor. He’s an energetic and athletically strong player who can cover multiple positions in the paint, which will give us more depth in our rotation. Throughout his career, Thomas has shown a true competitive spirit, which is a trait we highly value in Ljubljana. We believe he’ll quickly adapt to our system and become an important part of our story this season,” said Cedevita Olimpija’s sporting director, Chechu Mulero.
“Thomas Kennedy is a player who impressed over his two years in Bonn with his work ethic and attitude on the court, improving each season. He’s an excellent addition given our resources. He has great character, proven by his role as team captain in Bonn. I expect him to contribute significantly under the basket with his fighting spirit, personality, and work rate,” said Zvezdan Mitrović, head coach of Cedevita Olimpija’s senior team.
“After two good seasons in Bonn, where I began my European career, I’m excited to move to Ljubljana! I’ve only heard great things about both Cedevita Olimpija and the city. I’m confident I can contribute and bring lots of energy to the team — energy that the fans can be proud of,” said Thomas Kennedy upon signing with the Ljubljana club.
Thomas Kennedy studied at the University of Windsor in Canada, where he impressed with outstanding performances over four seasons. In his final season, 2022/23, he earned the title of Most Valuable Player in the U SPORTS organization, the Canadian university equivalent of the NCAA in the United States. That season, he averaged 20.3 points and 13.8 rebounds per game.
Kennedy also played in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL), which runs annually from May to August. In the summer of 2022, playing for the Fraser Valley Bandits, he averaged 14.5 points and 8.3 rebounds per game and was named CEBL U SPORTS Player of the Year. In the summer of 2023, he joined the Scarborough Shooting Stars, where he averaged 9.9 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.
Before the 2023/24 season, Kennedy left his home environment and moved to Germany, signing with Telekom Bonn. Over two seasons, he gained valuable experience in both the German national championship and the Basketball Champions League. In the 2023/24 Champions League season, he appeared in 12 games, averaging 9.9 points and 4.9 rebounds.
In the 2024/25 Champions League season, he played eight games, averaging 10.1 points and an impressive 9.0 rebounds per game, which ranked him first on the Bonn roster by efficiency index. In the German league, he appeared in 33 games that season, contributing 10.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. He served as team captain and was one of the top rebounders in both the Champions League and the domestic competition.
Kennedy has also worn the jersey of the Canadian senior national team in three different competitions – at the 2022 AmeriCup, during the FIBA Americas Qualifiers for the 2023 World Cup, and most recently in the qualifiers for AmeriCup 2025. In the most recent qualification cycle, he played six games and averaged 9.0 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
