Cedevita Olimpija has successfully completed a stretch of four consecutive home games—the Ljubljana club’s basketball players recorded their fourth straight win, and fifth overall, on Wednesday in the eighth round of the BKT EuroCup regular season against Veolia Towers Hamburg (93:73).
The senior team of Cedevita Olimpija passed the period of four consecutive home games with flying colors. In matchups against Vienna, Venezia, Crvena zvezda, and Hamburg, the Dragons registered four straight victories; before that, they had already defeated Cluj in Romania. In the eighth round of the BKT EuroCup regular season, the scoreboard in Wednesday’s game against Hamburg in Stožice showed 93:73 in favor of the Ljubljana team.
Before the competitive break that follows next week, only one more game awaits the Dragons—a matchup with Spartak Office Shoes in Subotica. The Ljubljana team will head to Serbia on Saturday, and the duel with Spartak, in which they will attempt to extend their winning streak, will take place on Sunday at 17:00.
Thus, the Ljubljana club heads into a short EuroCup break with a record of six wins and two losses—they sit just below the top of Group A, currently led by Turkey’s Bahçeşehir. For the third time this millennium, and the first time since the 2002/03 season, the Ljubljana club has a 6–2 record after the first eight rounds in competitions under the umbrella of Euroleague Basketball.
GAME REPORT:
Cedevita Olimpija started the game in an amazing fashion, leading by 8 points in the fourth minute of the game (14:6). Early lead turned out to be decisive, as the visiting squad has not managed to even the score anymore after that. The Dragons have created themselves the first double-digit lead after the bucket by captain Jaka Blažič (34:23), exactly 10 minutes later. At halftime, the score was 48:35. In the remainder of the clash, the hosts kept cruising towards the win in the end with the final score of 93:73.
For Cedevita Olimpija, DJ Stewart led the way in scoring with 17 points on his record, while Umoja Gibson and Thomas Kennedy added 14 points apiece.
