Cedevita Olimpija’s basketball players claimed their sixth straight win on Sunday in Subotica, defeating Spartak in the derby of the eighth round of the AdmiralBet ABA League regular season by a score of 87:84.
The senior squad of Cedevita Olimpija wrapped up their November games with distinction. The Ljubljana Dragons won all six of their games — most recently on Sunday in Subotica, where they defeated Spartak by a score of 87:84 in the eighth round of the AdmiralBet ABA League regular season. Before that, the team coached by Zvezdan Mitrović defeated Cluj, Vienna, Venezia, Crvena zvezda, and Hamburg in succession.
The Ljubljana team now has a few days off — the squad will gather for training again at Stožice on Thursday, except for those who will begin national team duties next week. Cedevita Olimpija’s next game will be on Thursday, December 4, when they will host Śląsk at Stožice at 18:30.
After eight games played in the EuroCup, Cedevita Olimpija sits at the top of Group A, tied in wins and losses with Bahçeşehir and Hapoel Jerusalem. All three teams have six wins. In the regional league, the Dragons have so far played seven games and are the only team in Group B to have recorded six wins in those seven games.
GAME REPORT:
Cedevita Olimpija opened the game explosively and took a 9–0 lead after just two minutes of play. Although Spartak managed to get back into the fight for the win after the initial shock, it seems that this early run significantly contributed to the Dragons maintaining control throughout the entire game and staying in the lead most of the time. Their largest advantage came six minutes before the end, when they were ahead by 12 points, but the home team responded with a 9–0 run over the next two minutes to close the gap to just four points, though they never managed to take the lead. Ten seconds before the end, Olivier Hanlan scored to cut the deficit to just one point, but on the other end, Umoja Gibson sealed the final score from the free-throw line during the next possession, and the home team failed to score again. The green-orange squad returns to Ljubljana with their heads held high.
For Cedevita Olimpija, the most efficient scorer was Umoja Gibson with 20 points, while DJ Stewart and Nikos Chougkaz each added 17. Aleksej Nikolić contributed 10 points.
