The senior team of Cedevita Olimpija suffered a defeat against Vienna (93–89) in the 14th round of the first stage of the AdmiralBet ABA League in Vienna.
Cedevita Olimpija’s senior squad travels from Vienna to Klaipėda with a poor result behind them – on Saturday, the Dragons lost to the home side Vienna (93–89) in the 14th round of the first stage of the AdmiralBet ABA League. This is the third defeat of the regional season for the Slovenian champions, which fortunately is not decisive in the battle for a place among the top eight teams.
On Sunday, Cedevita Olimpija’s senior team will head to Klaipėda, where they will face Neptūnas in a EuroCup matchup on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. Slovenian time. In Lithuania, the Dragons will be chasing an important victory in the fight for a playoff spot. In regional competition, they will be back in action on Saturday, when they host Budućnost VOLI in Stožice in the round’s derby. Tickets for the game are already available at vstopnice.olimpija.com.
GAME REPORT:
In Vienna, the Dragons never really found their rhythm. After the first quarter they trailed by six points, and by halftime the deficit had grown to nine (47–38). In the second half, the home side increased their advantage further, and after three quarters they were already up by thirteen points.
In the final quarter, Umoja Gibson caught fire, scoring 20 of his total 24 points in that period. Carried by his performance, the Dragons mounted a near comeback, but ultimately came up just short of completing the turnaround.
For the Ljubljana side, Umoja Gibson was the leading scorer with 24 points. DJ Stewart added 17, Aleksej Nikolić 12, David Škara 11, and Rok Radović chipped in 10.
