The team of Cedevita Olimpija enters the continuation of the 2023/24 competitive season strengthened! The Dragons jersey will be worn by Klemen Prepelič, who has signed a contract with the Ljubljana team for at least two months, until the end of the calendar year 2023.
Cedevita Olimpija is stronger in the position of defender for the Slovenian representative Klemno Prepelič. The latter will come to the aid of the Ljubljana team, while Prepelič will return to Ljubljana after almost a decade, and finished the 2022/23 season in Valencia. In the Euroleague, Prepelič played in 27 games in the 2022/23 season, 11 of which he started in the first five, and he averaged 7.1 points, 3.1 assists and 0.7 rebounds per faceoff.
In 2020, Prepelič was selected in the top five of the Spanish national championship, and at the same time he was the best scorer of the Spanish national championship. In 2019, he won the title of Spanish national champion with Real.
“We are pleased that we managed to bring Klemen Prepelič to Cedevita Olimpija. Klemen has been one of the leaders of the game in the Slovenian national team for many years, and with his experience playing in the Euroleague and the EuroCup, he will certainly come to the aid of our team. We are aware that it will take time for Klemen to catch up with the rest of his teammates, but we also believe that he will be able to do it with the training and matches ahead. Once again, we are very pleased that Klemen is back in Stožice, and we can’t wait, to see him on the floor in a Cedevita Olimpija jersey,” said Cedevita Olimpija Sports Director Vlado Ilievski at the signing of the contract with Prepelič.
“I am certainly very happy that I will have the opportunity to play in Ljubljana again after a long time. It has been 45 days since I last stepped on the floor for a match, so I am eager for games, proving myself and new challenges. I want us to step together on a new positive path that would bring us as many victories as possible,” said Klemen Prepelič upon signing the contract with Cedevita Olimpija.
Prepelič made his debut in the member competition in the 2009/10 season, wearing the jersey of Branik from Maribor. This was followed by a move to Helios Domžale, where in the 2011/12 season he also played on the regional stage and averaged 14.2 points, 3.1 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game. In 2012, he moved from Domžale to the then Union Olimpija and in the 2012/13 season he experienced playing on the Euroleague stage for the first time.
Before the 2013/14 season, he moved to the Turkish Banvit, and in October 2014 he returned to Ljubljana. From there he went to EWE Baskets Oldenburg, a season later to Levallois Metropolitans, and before the start of the 2018/19 season he signed a contract with Real Madrid. From 2019, we were able to follow him in the jersey of Joventut from Badalona, and most recently he wore the jersey of Valencia, with whom he played in the Euroleague and EuroCup.
In the elite Euroleague, Prepelič spent four seasons and played 90 matches, while in the European Cup he played six seasons and appeared in 82 matches. In Euroleague competition, Prepelič spent an average of just over 17 minutes on the floor per game, and scored 8.3 points, 2.6 assists and 1.1 rebounds per game. His averages in the European Cup are 11.1 points, 2.5 assists and 1.9 rebounds per faceoff.
Klemen Prepelič has also been a permanent member of the Slovenian men’s national team since 2014, when he played at the World Championship. He also performed at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, three EuroBaskets and this year’s World Championship. He played in nine games at EuroBasket 2017 and averaged 13.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. At the Tokyo Olympics, he recorded 15.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in six games, and at this year’s World Championship he averaged 14.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per contest.
