In the playing position of Point Guard, Cedevita Olimpija will be stronger with Justin Cobbs in the new competition season 2023/24. The latter has already worn the jersey of Zagreb’s Cedevita in the past, but now for the first time in his career he will defend the colors of the united club from Ljubljana.
Justin Cobbs is a new old member of Cedevita Olimpija. The new one, because for the first time in his career he will wear the jersey of the team from Ljubljana, and the old one, because he was already a member of Zagreb’s Cedevita in the 2018/19 season. Cobbs is returning to Europe after spending one season in Tokyo, and signed a one-year contract with the Ljubljana club.
In his display case, we can find the French national champion title from 2018, two Montenegrin national champion titles (2021, 2022), three Montenegrin cup champion titles (2020, 2021, 2022) and one Croatian cup champion title (2019).
“Justin Cobbs is a player who has already left a big mark in his career in the regional league, and at the same time he has experience playing in the BKT EuroCup. He is a proven leader on and off the court, and we expect him to be like that here as well, and we are very happy that he has joined us at Cedevita Olimpija. Cobbs, who I hope will lead the team to the best possible results with his experience, knowledge and quality, is also the last reinforcement of this summer and with him we complete the composition of our team for the new season. He knows the European Cup and the regional league. With Justin, we completed the composition of our team. We have a nice mix of players who can lead the team with their experience and players who we are counting on to step up in their careers and prove themselves. The primary goal of course was to build a team within the budget that we have available. We’re happy that on paper the roster looks logical. We have players who can play multiple positions and that’s what we’ve been aiming for. Justin Cobbs tried out for the first time on the European floors in the VEF Riga jersey in 2014, and in the same year he joined the Fraport Skyliners. His path then led him to Istanbul BB, Bayern Basketball, Graveliners, Le Mans, and before the start of the 2018/19 season, he joined Zagreb’s Cedevita. He stayed in the Croatian capital for one season, then spent three in Podgorica’s Budućnost VOLI, and lastly we were able to follow him in the Alvark Tokyo team.
In the 2018/19 season at Cedevita, he played in 22 games in the regular season of the regional league and averaged 13.2 points, 4.2 assists and 1.8 rebounds, and in the playoffs he played in three games and scored 19.0 points, 3.7 assists and 1.7 rebounds per game. In the same season, he played in one game in the regular season of the Croatian national championship, and in eleven in the playoffs, and averaged 12.4 points, 4.0 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game.
At Budućnost, where he spent three seasons, he was one of the leaders of the team from Podgorica in all of them, and in the last season he spent with the Blue and White team, he averaged 12.8 points, 4.3 assists and 2.2 rebounds in the 27.7 minutes he spent on the floor. In the 2022/23 season, Cobbs played in 47 games in Japan for Alvark Tokyo, averaging 14.3 points, 4.4 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game.
In addition to his American citizenship, Cobbs also has Montenegrin citizenship, and so far he has played for Montenegro in the qualifiers for EuroBasket 2022 and the pre-qualifiers and qualifiers for the World Cup 2023. He played in four games in the qualifiers for the WC 2023, averaging 18.3 points, 5.0 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game.
