In early 2021, KK Cedevita Olimpija launched “Zmajev nasmeh” (Dragon’s Smile), a socially responsible program aimed at giving back to society and the community that the club has been part of for many years.

BASKETBALL IN EVERY HOME

As part of the “Zmajev nasmeh” program, KK Cedevita Olimpija proudly announces the start of a new charitable campaign titled “Basketball in Every Home.” In collaboration with the Truhoma/Anina zvezdica organization, the goal of the campaign is to help children who face financial obstacles that prevent them from training and playing basketball, allowing them to pursue their dreams.

Campaign Goals:

Basketball is more than just a sport; it’s a way of life that brings joy, confidence, and a sense of belonging to children. Our goal is to enable as many children as possible to access basketball with your support. The funds raised through the campaign will primarily be used for:

  • Paying membership fees and training costs in local basketball clubs.
  • Purchasing equipment and other essentials necessary for basketball training.
  • Covering transportation and other logistical challenges faced by the children’s families.

Donation Transparency:

The partnership with the Truhoma/Anina zvezdica platform ensures complete transparency in the collection and distribution of funds. Donors can track their donations in real time through the platform, ensuring 100% traceability and trust in how contributions are used.

How Can You Contribute?

We invite you to join the campaign by donating any amount or signing up for a monthly contribution. Every euro counts and can significantly help make young basketball players’ dreams come true.

Zmajev nasmeh and Community Engagement

As emphasized during the launch of the “Zmajev nasmeh” project, two core values that KK Cedevita Olimpija always highlights are charity and giving back to the environment and society to which the club belongs. As the Ljubljana team continues to grow both athletically and organizationally, so does its ability to direct its influence towards charitable causes and raising awareness of critical social issues. The main goal of “Zmajev nasmeh” is to help vulnerable groups through basketball stories, offering hope to those who may have lost it.

Each season, various charitable and socially responsible actions are organized within the “Zmajev nasmeh” project.

KK Cedevita Olimpija is especially proud to collaborate on this project with the “Chain of Good People” (Veriga dobrih ljudi) program, run by the Friends of Youth Association (Zveza prijateljev mladine) Ljubljana Moste-Polje. Anita Ogulin, the long-time president of ZPM Ljubljana Moste-Polje, tragically passed away in 2024 after a long illness. She was one of Slovenia’s most passionate and heartfelt individuals, whose humanitarian work transformed countless lives. Through the “Chain of Good People,” the organization supports struggling families across Slovenia, helping them overcome poverty and move towards self-sufficiency.

This partnership enhances the significance of the “Zmajev nasmeh” project, and KK Cedevita Olimpija will continue and strengthen its collaboration with the Friends of Youth Association Ljubljana Moste-Polje, a relationship that first blossomed during the 2019/20 season.

“Zmajev nasmeh was created with a simple goal – to give back to the society where KK Cedevita Olimpija thrives and to bring hope to those in need who are fighting daily for a better life. We are very proud and honored that the Friends of Youth Association Ljubljana Moste-Polje has joined our project. We are grateful that Anita Ogulin, an extraordinary humanitarian, recognized the full potential our club has to offer,” said Davor Užbinec, director of KK Cedevita Olimpija, during the announcement of the collaboration. “We must understand that basketball is more than just a sport. It’s a way of life, and with the right approach to organization and involvement in our local community, we can make a significant contribution to solving some of the biggest problems facing our society. I believe that with Zmajev nasmeh and the Chain of Good People, we will help many families who might currently be living on the edge of despair, giving them hope for a better tomorrow.”

“Poverty doesn’t only mean a lack of material or financial resources; it also means a lack of access to education and social systems, affecting the achievement of goals, leading to poor living conditions, and causing social exclusion,” explained Anita Ogulin during the project presentation. She added about the “Chain of Good People”: “With the Chain of Good People, we aim to connect people in acts of kindness, signaling to struggling families across Slovenia that we care. With your help, we are not just offering them survival, but also the changes that will lead them to live dignified lives and contribute to building a successful society.”
