The Slovenian men’s national team recorded its historic first victory in the historic first match at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The team of head coach Aleksander Sekulić defeated Argentina 118: 100 in the first round of Group C, while the exceptional Luka Dončić scored 48 points and collected 11 rebounds and five assists.
On Monday, Slovenia played in the Olympic Games for the first time in history and recorded its first victory. In the first round of the group stage of the competition, the Slovenian basketball players defeated Argentina 118: 100.
On the wings of the exceptional Luka Dončić, who scored 31 points and eight rebounds in the first half, the Slovenes gained a high advantage after only 20 minutes of the game (62:42), and in the third quarter they were already leading with 30 points after Luka’s triple difference (82:52), and in the last quarter they brought the match to an end without too much turmoil. In the end, Dončić stopped with 48 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.
Žiga Dimec proved to be the best of the Cedevita Olimpija players, who are defending the colors of Slovenia in Tokyo, with five points and seven rebounds. Luka Rupnik added four assists to four points, Jaka Blažič collected five more rebounds with three points, and Edo Murić scored three points.
The Slovenian national team will be active again on Thursday at 6.40 Slovenian time, and will be opposed by the host of the Olympic Games, the team Japan.
